### The standout quarterback whose second and third pro seasons were very, very close statistically to Ryan Tannehill’s?
Atlanta’s Matt Ryan, who received a contract worth $20.8 million a year and $59 million guaranteed from Atlanta in 2013. Tannehill will end up being cheaper at $16 million on average (or $19.2 million, over the last four years of the deal) and $45 million guaranteed.
Tannehill had 81.7 and 92.8 ratings in years two and three; Ryan 80.9 and 91.0.
But Ryan, while obviously a top-half-of-the-league quarterback, might have plateaued, with passer ratings of 89.6 and 93.9 the past two seasons.
If Tannehill is another Ryan longterm, that would be OK, but the Dolphins believe there’s another step Tannehill will take.
### Dolphins receiver Rishard Matthews, who has been catching passes from former NFL quarterback Brady Quinn because he’s skipping Miami’s offseason program in hopes he will be traded, tweeted: “Anyone [who] thinks I am afraid of competition has no idea who I am. I’m a seventh rounder, which means I wasn’t given anything.”
At this point, the Dolphins have no incentive to deal Matthews. but they might consider it if Matt Hazel or Christion Jones has a terrific camp and emerges as a viable No. 5 receiver.
The Dolphins love the punt/kickoff return skills of Jones, the former Alabama receiver who went undrafted. He will have a legitimate chance to win those jobs.
### The Dolphins, under Dennis Hickey, have been very respectful to veterans by informing them of some impending personnel moves that would affect them.
Before the draft, defensive line coach Terrell Williams invited the defensive linemen into a room, showed them tape of five defensive line draft prospects (including the player Miami would end up selecting, Jordan Phillips), asked their opinion (Phillips got good reviews from the players) and said Miami likely would address that position in the draft.

There is more about Coyle supposedly simplifying the defense in the article and Rishard what is your problem exactly? Your not going to another team and starting and some of the situation your in is of our own fault by your own admissions.

Rishard needs to go . We have something positive going on here. If he doesn't want to be a part of it . Go be the #4 for the browns.

I wonder how much we can read into this comment below. I think they like Hazel and that's why they put him on the active roster at end of year so he wouldn't get poached. It's really early guess we see how camp goes and of course there is the injury factor. Rishard is one of the few players left on the offense who should know the offense, know the QB so you don't just come in with the attitude I have an advantage over the others? I just don't get it.

Philbin cites Damien Williams, Matt Hazel & Walt Aikens as some of the young players who have impressed him this off-season.
@TheFinsiders @OmarKelly

I don't see the big deal. Matthews has seen how little action a number five receiver gets and wants to go somewhere where he could play more. I don't see why people get so upset about that. I understand the team's stance too, they're not going to just let him go if they feel he has value or could help the team if someone gets injured. As it stands Matthews will complain, the team will ignore it and we'll see where things stand in August. Matthews playing with Miami in 2015 would be good for the team, but not the best option for Matthews.

I thinkfolks are puzzled he is skipping workouts. I am. Not really the way someone makes a good impression and fights for a job.

He doesn't want a job as a fifth receiver here, so why should he come to a voluntary camp. People are thinking he should take the job and shut up, but he has the right to try to get a better role somewhere else if he can get it. If he doesn't want to be here in the role that is slotted for him that doesn't make him a bad guy.

I remember in the late 70's when the Milwaukee Bucks had all-star small forward Marques Johnson backed up by the leagues best sixth man Junior Bridgeman. The third stringer wasn't happy with just sitting the bench, so Alex English leaves and a year later gors to Denver and becomes a NBA hall-of famer. I'm not saying that Mathews will be great else where, but if he believes all he needs is a bigger role and he's not going to get it here I think he has the right to try and force a move. Just as the team has the right to ignore him or grant his wish.

He wants to hook up with his old college QB Colin Kaepernick at the 49ers. He has observed that the way to get an exit from Miami is to be a pouting diva and be very uncooperative (eg Mike Wallace). He knows he has some talent and he wants the opportunity to get more plays. Watch for him to land in San Francisco.

Why do you think that's ploy, other than his college qb?

Rishard can get the hell out. You weren't handed anything and now you're bitching about not being handed anything. There's a reason a talented WR slipped to the 7th. It's time to move on.

It's very obvious unlike melty, Tannehill still has not reached that ceiling.

We are still to see Tannehill with a somewhat consistent O-line, and even though Tannehill does need to somewhat throw a more consistent deep ball, for those that watched the games objectively, you could see there were plenty of deep passes that Wallace should have caught.

Still amazing in Tannehill's 1st year he was among one of the better QBs throwing deep, and was better throwing deep to anyone not called Mike Wallace, then to Mike himself in year two and three...Coincidence?

This bit is interesting, because Blowmar had us believe Phillips was an impulse buy that Tannenbaum forced upon Dennis Hickey on draft day. Clearly, DT was on the radar and Phillips was one of only 5 guys Hickey had high on his shopping list. Blowmar misinforms (or, more likely, deceives) again.

Kudos btw to Hickey for prepping his players for impending roster changes - that's the kind of move that players will respect the organisation for.

Again....., Dennis Hickey, the ANTI Ireland.

Yeah, Omar's report struck me as odd. It's such a vital position in regard to maximizing Suh, and maximizing Suh is vital to the D's success, which is vital to the team's success. More than likely, Omar didn't/doesn't understand how much the 1-tech needed upgraded, so he made some stuff up about how the FO made the Phillips pick on a whim. If he didn't see it coming, how could they?
