Did Jimmy Johnson cheat when he was coach of the Dolphins?

http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/s...23/jimmy-johnson-thinks-spygate-is-overblown/

Q: Did you ever steal signals?
JJ: Oh in a heartbeat, yeah. Yes I did.
Q: Via video, Jimmy? Or no?
JJ: Oh yeah, I did it with video and so did a lot of other teams in the league. Just to make sure that you could study it and take your time, because you’re going to play the other team the second time around. But a lot of coaches did it, this was commonplace.
JJ: That’s what I’m saying. I was saying one of Marty Schottenheimer’s scouts, Mark Hatley, who has passed away now, Mark told me that’s how they did it, and Howard Mudd their offensive line coach with Kansas City, who now coaches for Tony Dungy, he was the best in the entire league at stealing signals.

Jimmy could have stole the other teams playbook and we still wouldn't of won a superbowl during his years.

That's Jimmy Johnson... Who ever considered him a "Miami Dolphin" in the first place? He's the one that suggested Wanny to Huizenga. Not very "Dolphin friendly," IMO.

the miami dolphins ARE cheaters, thats why we only won 1 game this year.

on a serious note, if there's any team that DOESNT cheat, its us.

Q: Where’d you put your guy who was videotaping? Where was he?

JJ: My guy was up with my camera crew in the press box. So you’d just put an extra camera up with your camera crew in the press box who zoomed in on the signal callers. That’s the best way to do it, but anyway you can’t always do that because the press box camera crew might be on the same side as the opposing team. If they’re on the same side as the opposing team that’s when you need to do it from the sideline.

I see that as the big difference. He had his guy up in the box while the Patriots had their's sneaking around the sidelines. If a guy is able to steal signals from the press box, then more power to them. Like Johnson said, it didn't always work. The Patriots on the other hand had a guy down low who could ALWAYS get the signals.

My point exactly, the only reason NE gets more flack then anyone else is because either their better at it or because they kept winning all the time. Not defending it but let's just be realistic about it.

I'm pretty sure all teams still signals in some capacity. But I'm a lot less certain that it's been done by many teams at the level the Pats have done it.

Maybe there are other teams stealing opposing coaches signals but if the league desides to make an example out of the Patriots to send a message, fine by me. It couldnt happen to a better bunch of arrogant prima donnas. Also,a lot of people love to throw the "dynasty" lable around concerning the Patriots. What dynasty? As far as I`m concerned they rack up a ton of regular season games but come playoff time they couldnt seem to win the "big-one" for the last three years. Dynasty? Dont kid yourselves. Getting back on topic I could only hope the league comes down hard on the Pats befor its all over but, unfortunately,I dont see it happening. Goodell can only hope this starts to fade away soon and it probably will. What goes on behind the scenes we`ll never know about....Did someone say the Dolphins are cheaters also? Thank god we were able "steal" one game last year to save face.

Jimmy Johnson's long-term effect on the Dolphin organization can be compared to a roofer exposed to years of asbestos: at the moment, everything looked okay, but residually over time you've developed a nasty ravenous mesothelioma that threatens to be fatal. By the time he got to the Fins, few were aware that Johnson had already lost his fastball and no finesse pitches in his arsenal.

Quaint that it came from the Boston Herald :)
