I like McCain, but I do not know how you make that statement from watching OTAs.

DAVIE, Fla. -- If there was an offseason award for most improved player with the Miami Dolphins, second-year linebacker Chris McCain would be a front-runner. No player has improved his standing more with the team than McCain compared to a year ago.

McCain came to the Dolphins in the spring of 2014 as an undrafted free agent with long odds of making the team. But McCain flashed early and often in training camp and earned a spot on Miami's 53-man roster. He got most of his rookie reps on special teams, highlighted by a blocked punt against the New England Patriots.

Fast forward to Year 2 where McCain enters training camp as the favorite to start at outside linebacker. McCain got most of the first-team reps in organized team activities and minicamp and fit in well with the starting unit.

Won't matter...for whatever reason...the staff won't let him see the field near enough!

Our staff has a thing for not playing rookies as much as we fans would like, for some reason. I think he'll get a fair shot at the starting spot this year.

lets play what if. What if Philbin was the HC when we drafted Marino. Does Dan get on the field and light the league on fire from start no 1 or does Phailbin roll w incumbent scrub even though Stevie Wonder could see that the talent levels weren't even in the same solar system during OTAs? I believe Dan wouldn't have seen the field.

Marino didn't start until week 6.. Tannehill on the other hand started week 1 with philbin as his head coach. Sometimes people find the greatest things to complain about. Oh I love the off season

Well, if he's any better than Wheeler he'll start no doubt. Hard not to better than Wheeler!

Yea that made no sense to me lol. McCain even said himself that he didn't study the defense well enough, I think he will have more than enough of a shot this season.

There's a very good reason he and other rookies don't play early. As for McCain specifically, this is a pretty good reason why. Stop crying about it already.

“I definitely should’ve studied more,” McCain said. “I kind of thought some concepts were the same from college and things like that. Then, when you start seeing different offenses, coming from the Pac-12 to the NFL is totally different.”

Can't we stop repeating this nonsense already? Learning a playbook is one thing, doing it at NFL speed is a whole different world. Why do you think they made the playbook easier?

To get young players on the field. But keep blaming philbin for not playng rookies, you guys know who's ready and who's not. I'm sure of it.

lol - Tannehill started the first game as a rookie

edit: Nija'd, but anyway, Philbin has played plenty of rookies. The Jordan thing really got folks on the "Philbin won't start the young guy" band wagon, and turns out he had pretty good reason. Most of the rookies he's started have played well, so he's doing something right there.

...I like this kid McCain... he did show some flashes last year....being an undrafted player...helps me forget the waste of the 1st round pick,3rd overall, that is Dion Jordan!!!...

Has nothing to do with rookies. Just ask Matthews who is still wondering why couldn't see the field with "Stumbles Hartline" starting.

You just "lap up" the crap that comes from the staff don't you...
