''We run practice just like a college program,'' Williams said.

KTOWNFINFAN said:That is an interesting thought. I have always heard was that one of the main reasons for staying in college for 4 years was b/c in the pros there is less learning of the fundementals and more about learning complicated playbooks, and how to attack complicated defenses. By going over the basic fundementals, even at a fast pace, it drills into your mind how to do things correctly. Do it until it becomes habit. At the speed of the NFL you don't have time to think. Once everything becomes habit you can spend more time on preparing for the opponent....or at least that is my theory.
Maybe THAT is why Nick's practices seem more like college. He is actually teaching.
Saban, straight-faced throughout his 40-minute news conference, maintained that his methods were transferable to the pro game because they involve a proven formula for players to improve. Yet he balked at being called a disciplinarian.

He learned last season that no matter how much he outlined expectations for rookie running back Ronnie Brown, things only seemed to improve once Ricky Williams rejoined the team.
''I've never been around a guy that practices at the tempo this guy practices at,'' he said of Ricky Williams. ``He would take a simple play and he was 40 to 50 yards down the field, every run that he had.''
