Mike Hull might have won the Miami Dolphins’ starting inside linebacker job by default, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t deserve the role.
That’s the point Dolphins defensive coordinator Matt Burke reiterated about the former Penn State standout, whom the team has affectionately nicknamed “Scrap” because of his feisty nature, and tenacious approach to football.
“Mike Hull is the guy everybody always wants to count out. Everyone looks at him and thinks he’s too small, or too this, or too that,” said Burke, who spent last season as Hull’s linebacker coach before being promoted to defensive coordinator when Vance Joseph became the Denver Broncos’ coach. “Every time we’ve had to play him, whether it’s in game situations, practice, he’s always ready. He knows what he’s doing. He’s a great instinctive football player. He’s always around the ball.”

So... maualuga isn't the starter? We do not want to see Hull starting out there. He will get run over. Not that he isn't instinctual but that only gets him so far

I think Maualuga is hurt (again).

I saw a pic of Maualuga from Bleacher Report yesterday, and he looked far from in shape.

As for Hull, I think the Dolphins are comfortable that Hull knows the defense, won't make errors, and will give 100% for the team. That doesn't mean he'll be effective. If they were truly comfortable with Hull, McMillan wouldn't have been drafted.

Look no further than this statement for the truth of this situation.

As much as I like Gase, Maualuga is a terrible move. History of alcoholic abuse dated back to college. Reported to camp 20 lb overweight, now a hamstring. Why he still on the roaster is beyond me. He should be off the team two weeks ago, saving a spot for someone hungry.
