Dolphins complete interview with Mike Zimmer

I don't know, Zimmer being a Bengal he might be familiar with Daboll having to face his offense twice a year. He might keep Daboll, which I wouldn't mind.

Four teams will be eliminated from the playoffs in a few days, including the 49ers or Saints. Why not kick a few more tires and be sure we've really looked everywhere before pulling the trigger?

as soon as Zimmer was mentioned I was excited about that possibility. I really think he'll make a good HC somewhere, and I think he's ready to be one.

PORTFIN: what makes you think this? how is he so "ready" to be a h/c? what more than anyone else sets him apart?

please EXPLAIN in detail. not what you have HEARD, but what you have seen from the guys career that makes you so "excited"?

i know one game doesnt mean much, but his playoff game this past weekend was a BUST on his part. they got WORKED! his defense didnt do diddly! but besides that game, i just dont see all the hyper activity for the guy. a quality coach for sure, but i dont see anything leaps and bounds from him over a zillion other assistants or candidates out there.

explain in detail WHAT YOU SEE from him.

I'm starting to favor Zimmer as the head coach but the bottom line is that we need a good QB for the head coach to attach himself to. Whether it's Zimmer or Fisher, neither will be successful without a quality single caller. Let's hope that this is the year that they get both.

IF Fisher goes to the Rams, which I still expect, is Zimmer the frontrunner? I would have guessed Philbin, but I am not sure what to think after the family situation recently. Talk about tough to approach in terms of the Dolphins.

I wish the Philbin family well.

I think Zimmer's connection with Ireland makes him the front runner if Fisher takes the Rams job. I think Zimmer and Bowles have a better than average chance.

I Think if Fisher goes to rams Zimmer is our guy. I like Zimmer and he would be a good choice but wonder if ireland will just get lucky by getting Zimmer and hire him because he has worked with him. Cant fault Ireland for this since this is the way of the NFL, I mean look at the raiders firing a coach that did a decent job just to get a familiar coach on staff

Its kinds what i am hoping. Dont transition the offense this year if you are a defensive minded HC. Just make the defense in your image and keep the offense with two more stud OL and a QB.

I follow this notion too. I am in no hurry to get the right guy. This world is built around the notion that you have to get your guy in place but not when ireland is in charge of the draft and FA and already has his knowledge.

Pete Carmichael, Philbin (see how he does in playoffs with the tradgedy), Clements.

I've known Mike for over 40 years. Our last names being close together, we were in similar classes and side by side at graduation. Stood up in each other's weddings. Who he was back then is who he still is today. He is a very loyal guy. He was loyal to his wife, loyal to his kids, football, his players. He's a player's coach. Hard as nails, like his Dad, but knows how to soften up the edges a bit. Vikki taught him that. She wanted him to be a head coach even more than he wanted it probably, and I think that's driving it even more now. He wants her to look down on that accomplishment with pride. Bill and Ann, his parents, are over in Naples. I know that being relatively closer to Mike would be nice for Ann. I think his kids, especially his girls, are ready for him to become a head coach. He's been an amazing father AND mother over the past couple of years. Since Vikki died, I know that it's been tough on Mike, but football is a good haven for him. It keeps him busy, keeps the quiet times few and far between, and it showcases what Vikki believed in him. For those reasons, and many others, I think he's more than ready to be a head coach. He would be a very good addition.

After watching the title game, last night, I would be quite thrilled w/ Zimmer and one of the players (Upchurch, Hightower, or Kirkpatrick).

Let the Offense be whatever it is; The thought of knocking Tommy boy and the sanchize around for many seasons brings a smile to my face.

I really think people put too much stock into whether a coach is defensive or offensive minded. Just because they coach one side of the ball doesn't mean the other side will be garbage. Tomlin was a DC before the Steelers hired him, Billick was a great OC in Minnesota and won the Superbowl in Baltimore because of his defense and running game. Bill Belichick was a defensive coach too. I just want a good coach who will hire a good staff and the rest will take care of itself.

Good to see someone gets it.
