I found this article on ESPN and didn't know which forum to post it on as it talks about our current corners and the draft.
http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-7-114/Dolphins-could-stand-to-upgrade-both-corners.html
In it it talks about how our secondary gave up more passing yards than any other team to the offense's right side, (the defense's left and also Will Allen's side.) Also it talks about Eric Greens 9th worst rated yards per attemp at 9.3.
The Dolphins allowed an NFL-high 1,719 yards on passes to the right side of the field -- the defense's left side. Part of this could be attributed to the Dolphins trusting Allen in single coverage and rolling help to Goodman, but they surrendered 572 fewer yards to the other side of the field.
Here are the most passing yards allowed to a defense's left side:
Among corners who faced 30 or more passes last year, Green ranked ninth-worst at 9.3 yards allowed per attempt. Goodman gave up 6.7 yards per attempt, Miami's stingiest average.
Just by looking at these numbers I am really hoping we select 2 corners in this draft. Not only are the CB's on this team average to say the least, but we could lose 3 of them to free agency. I know many people say that you can overcome bad corners with an excellent pass rush, but your pass rush is not going to get to the QB everytime, and sooner or later with bad or even average CB's, the WR's in our division will kill us.
I also think having a shutdown CB on one side of the field will greatly help our pass rush. Now Im not saying there is a for sure corner in this draft who is capable of this feat, but I would at least like our FO to draft a couple players who may have the abilitly.
Oh how I long for the days of Madison and Surtain!!!!!
