Bush, who is expected to start Friday for what will be his first preseason action, is in an interesting situation. He’s a known NFL commodity — but lacking a body of work as an every-down back has put Miami’s running game into a state of unknown.
Can Bush handle a full workload? Can Thomas make an immediate impact as a rookie? Will Lex Hilliard or Kory Sheets make a jump as NFL prospects? Even coach Tony Sparano still has questions about what to expect.
“There’s no question about it,” said Sparano, asked about the uncertainty in the running game. “I mean, I’m seeing more out of them every day in practice, but I really need to see it in the games at a consistent level.
“It’s hard because you’re running out of quarters, but we’ve got to see it. We’ll get them out there again this week. We’ll play some of these guys and see what we see.”
Sparano isn’t willing to say how much Bush will play, considering he needs to also evaluate other running backs, but you can figure to expect to see him for a few series.
