Dolphins cutting defensive linemen Mario Williams, Earl Mitchell

In addition to the previously reported release of left tackle Branden Albert, they’re also cutting defensive tackle Earl Mitchell, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network. Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald adds defensive end Mario Williamsand cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu to the discard pile.

Sounds like we will be very active in free agency. I hope we fill the 2 guard spots and slot corner before the draft. Then use the draft for LB and other front 7 defensive spots.

Obviously not a great day because these guys are out a job. But always nice to see them releasing the right guys, even with guys like Albert that are tougher moves. All 3 of these cuts were the right decisions. Outside of Misi they've moved on from all the necessary guys in minutes.

The Mario Williams release was academic for the Dolphins. Was benched in October, in part because Andre Branch was simply a better player.

Of course Breer doesn't realize or check to see that Branch is a FA when he types that.
