Miami Dolphins President & CEO Tom Garfinkel today announced that the Dolphins Cycling Challenge has changed its name to the Dolphins Cancer Challenge (DCC). The updated name reflects the goals and additional events created to fight cancer, starting with two Fall Family Fests in November and culminating with DCC VI, a tri-county bike ride and run/walk event, scheduled for February 20, 2016. One hundred percent of the funds raised by participants go to fighting the disease. In the first five years of the DCC, $11.55 million has been donated to critical cancer research at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami.

“The Miami Dolphins are committed to fighting cancer,” said Garfinkel, the current Chairman of the Dolphins Cancer Challenge. “By changing our name to the Dolphins Cancer Challenge and adding new elements to the event, we are hoping to expand our reach by asking everyone in our community to be a cancer fighter and help us raise funds that go directly to fighting the disease.”

In February 2016, fundraising participants now will be able to fight cancer by participating in a 5K walk/run or by choosing from six different cycling rides ending at the stadium; capped off by a fun event and concert. Participants will enjoy VIP access to the concert and general access will be open to the public with proceeds from ticket sales also going to fight cancer. High-profile performers will be announced in the coming weeks when tickets go on sale.

Prior to DCC VI, the Dolphins Cancer Challenge will host two Fall Family Fests this November, with the objective of growing fundraising participants for DCC VI. The first is scheduled for November 8 in Fort Lauderdale, at Holiday Park, with the second November 15 at the University of Miami Coral Gables campus. Children ages 3-16 will be able to participate in a kids ride in a car-free, safe location with their families – from short loops up to 8-10 miles. Each event will have activities for the entire family, including a kids zone with bounce houses, face painting, Dolphins Youth Programs activities and other entertainment.

More information on all of the activities associated with the DCC, along with fundraising requirements for each event and information on the concert, can be found at the newly redesigned DolphinsCancerChallenge.com.
