Adam Gase on Wednesday talked about the team’s plans for last year’s first-round pick Charles Harris.
“He’s going to compete for the starting job,” Gase said of Harris.
That means Harris and veteran Andre Branch will likely be battling for the defensive end spot opposite Cameron Wake on the other side of the defensive line.
And Gase is apparently fired up about having Harris join the competition.

I agree with Mando. He did not have a good season and part of it has to do with lack of speed imo. He's a 4.8 guy and that's why so many times he was close but yet couldn't get there on time. I'm hoping he'll be better but nothing he did last year led me to believe that he'll be a star. I hope I'm wrong but I think we might have drafted yet another average player. The best he has going for him is that he works hard and he seems like a good kid so I'm rooting for him but not holding my breath

Ozzy rules!!

I would certainly hope a #1 might be able to compete for a starting job in Y2.

Actually I would kinda expect that in Y1.

Unsure on your conclusion -- Tho we were all led to believe the rest of the league was supposedly stunned we were able to "steal" this kid at the # we drafted him (and yea, I think he seriously under-performed expectations). Seems that was like with Tunsil (???) the year before... Makes ya kinda think we gotta big BS hype machine somewhere in the org.

I think if he gets stronger he'll also improve at holding the POA and not getting washed out on run plays.

He seems like he's motivated and hard working.

Let's hope it pays off.

Miami absolutely needs someone to step up. The pressure rate last season was bad.

De's need a year under their belt and tend to xo2me alive 2nd. Don't give up on the kid just yet.

What I mean is that I'm rooting for the kid because he's a dolphin and he does work hard but at the end of the day I believe we just got a possible starter when I was hoping for a possible star. I think he's a little slow to be that star at this level when it comes to rushing the passer. As far as playing the run he has a long way to go. Most of the time he takes himself out of the play because he wants to rush the passer and hence, he only had 19 tackles while playing in all 16 games. Couple that with the fact Wake is older and slowing down imo and DE is a big need once again

Talent, pass-rush ability, and quick twitch are far more important than 40 yard dashes when it comes to getting to the QB (plus he had a 1.65 10-yard split at the combine, much more important than the 40) . I liked what I saw from him last year and expect him to have a much better season this year.

Charles Harris certainly has motivation and desire, as well as, the potential. He seems to be a sponge for knowledge and always is looking for ways to improve. That’s a lot to like about a player. “BUT”; his combine numbers, which includes 4.8 speed doesn’t translate to a 4-3 Fulltime DE? He’s also not very strong in his he run defense and lacks awareness in the run game. He may be a better fit as a OLB, which at times I saw him lined up as, on some passing downs. I want to believe he’ll take a major step forward in year 2, but I’ll need to see more from him on the field. I just don’t get a good feeling Harris will develop into anything more than a rotational DE?

TJ Watt is not a 4 3 DE, wasn't a fit for our defense

I have read that on many sites but if I was gonna draft a DE ATour spot last year it would have been T J.

Screw the smoke screens and the A typical molds of a certain playing in a certain scheme or base....If he is a good Football player he can make it no matter what IMO.
