It seems like Ireland got too fixated on the physical performance metrics of certain players rather than their actual performance in games. Dion Jordan remains a work in progress with freaky physical potential, but we need to see more from him this year. I don't understand the expensive acquisition of Philip Wheeler. One of the worst recruiting decisions I've seen and Finheaven members were projecting a possible disaster from the moment he was signed. Wheeler's Agent totally exploited the team by offering the low payment year 1 and the guaranteed balloon in year 2. I understand the logic but if the player isn't even good enough to be on the team, a total disaster. Wheeler was a known product with many years at Indy before his good season on a bad Raiders team. Southbeach2 remains optimistic that Wheeler will improve significantly this year. We live in hope. There is a real possibility that Hickey will draft the LB who is athletic and a good tackler. I don't have any faith in converting Koa Misi to a middle linebacker, but maybe I'm wrong. He is very competitive.
If Ireland is wondering why he lost his job, he just needs to remember the total stupidity of the Wheeler acquisition. Ireland was consistently bad at drafting and recruiting Linebackers. In contrast, he was actually quite decent at drafting DBs, where we got good value from many late round picks.
