Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan: 'I've got a lot of work to do'

It's not coaching. Kacy Rodgers is one of the best positions coaches we've had here in a long time and you can just look at the strides both Shelby and Vernon made and know it's not coaching.

This is more to do with a player that really doesn't fit the defense we run but he's here now and we have to get the most we can out of him. Coyle needs to decide if he's a linebacker or if he's a DE and let him go into the offseason knowing what he needs to work on. In either case he needs to get a lot stronger...a lot stronger.

that's it right there...if he's a de he needs to add some good weight and get more strength at the poa more lead in the pencil and polish his edge pass rush if he's a lb he needs to get in the tape room and start working to read linemen and keys and lbs assignments and responsibility...

he already can cover so i don't worry about that part of it but he has to learn assignments and get in the film room... as a lb his pass rush is fine now...be more ablitz and overload guy and gap guy as de it's too one dimensional and he's got no counter if his initial rush is taken away...

he's thin torsoed also which may hurt weight gain...

Jordan is a DE. Trying to make him a 4-3 OLB and passing rushing DE in the mold of Von Miller is silly, nothing more or less. Now I could see him as a 3-4 OLB, which has many of the responsibilities of a 4-3 DE, but his movement skills in space are just a bonus, like a quarterback who also has open field running instincts to go with athleticism.

pretty much a 34 olb that we are gonna try and make a 43 de...is the way i see it...i think the lb thing is not in the plans...if he played lb imo it would be misis slot at strong...and we just resigned misi...

even though he would stay on the field in the nickle...

so if a 43 de is what he is gonna be for us polish up that pass rush and get off of the snap...weight gain would be nice also...he's not nursing an injury needs to get a cot in the weight room that he sleeps on

Kinda hard to work when the coaches dont give you the chance. 310 defensive snaps out of 1,106.

he has a lot of work to do to improve, the question is will he put the work in ?

the kid sure seems very mature, I still have trust in his future (big deal, I know :chuckle:)

i just don't get why they couldn't use him more as a pure lb, seeing as Wheeler was having clear problems: there is some specific reason? is it because is bad vs run? because it's not like Wheeler is very good at sheding blocks

As a former personal trainer back in the day twelve pounds is not much at all for a physically gifted athlete who has nearly a 6'7" frame! It's called lots of squats, food, and maybe some chemical enhancement lets get real.

Well u know we love to toss those away anyway. Trade 2's get 3's. Trade first rounders for second rounders its our thing

they're just draft picks. what's the big deal? what doesn't work out we'll fix in free agency

Even if Jordan develops an inside move it's not going to surprise anybody unless he somehow is quicker off the mark. He's got the Ellerbe disease of freezing at the snap.

He covers plenty of ground once he gets going but that's not ideal in football with plays starting and ending within seconds. Jordan reminds me somewhat of D. Wayne Lukas' current horse Will Take Charge, a big lumbering type with loads of talent but it took him a long time to develop and even now he doesn't fit every race, merely the classic distances. Similarly, I don't see how Jordan ever becomes a balanced player.

One aspect that would really help, IMO, is to use Jordan on center rushes and teach him to get both hands in the air. The significant majority of passes are from the pocket and a wingspan like that would cause not only bat downs, but concerns about them from the quarterback and coordinator.

With dion healthy and a whole off season to bulk up sky's the limit for him. He's extremely talented and fans need a little patience. My gut says he explodes next season

He's almost gonna be like an extra first round pick for us this upcoming draft, cuz it's like he was never on field this year.. Well mostly cuz he wasn't..

The more I read this thread the more depresing it gets. It looks more and more like Ireland drafted a project with not real position. Why would you move up for that? I still say his best position would be as an OLB on a 3-4 dfense which we don't run. If we want to switch to a 3-4 then you'll need like 3 new bigger LB's and we'd need another couple of big DE's to go along with Odrick(who would have to change positions once again). Vernon would not be able to play END either. What a mess and people still want to keep Ireland.....lol Not traying to be negative but in order for Jordan to be a full time player wich he should be when you invest like that, we might have to change our whole front 7. Am I talking crazy here or does that make sense? Does anyone feel that OLB on a 3-4 defense is NOT his best position?

Ozzy rules!!
