Star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh played an insane 84 percent of the Dolphins’ defensive snaps last season, and they don’t want to see anyone doing that this year.

The new template for the renovated defensive line is to send players in “waves,” as position coach Kris Kocurek put it today. Miami believes it has enough talent to do that, and the collection of defensive ends and tackles will theoretically be better in smaller doses.

I really liked the Kocurek and Loggains coaching additions. Kocurek is the DL coach that might make these guys start to play like their press clippings say they should. While the talent level dropped dramatically with the loss of Suh on 84% of the snaps, and everyone else getting a year older (which is good for Godchaux and Taylor, pretty much bad for everyone else), I think the coaching change will help a great deal.

I think the front 7 is why you see such low expectations on a national level.. And I get it... Fins fielded one of the worst defense in the NFL last season and just cut their best player...

Im very optimistic about the return of McMillan and the addition of Fitz, but reality is they're still question marks... So as much as this D's got upside, there's just as much a shot that they just falls flat...IMO

Im much more optimistic about the offense FWIW...

I liked the Kocurek hiring, and I like it even more after reading this. Sounds like he is going to turn this line into a force.

Well, we also added Quinn and Hayes is coming back. The young guys all got one more year of experience too so that should help. I guess time will tell

It will be interesting to see on Friday when we get more cap relief if Jonathan Hankins is signed, or if we are comfortable with who we have now.

Can only very marginally agree with this. Bottom line coaches don't play.

The loss of Suh needs to be offset in ways beyond straight up DL coaching.

We need to score more points. As often and as early as possible.

Gase is supposed to be an O genius. Well, its time to get wize!

Keep the Dline fresh by rotating players regularly, nothing new to that approach, but the difference is the amount of depth that we have for the first in a long time. Suh will be missed, but the Phins seem to have a plan, and it sounds like a good one.

Yep. I feel like Gase has close to what he wants on offense. The team has quite a bit of speed there with Drake, Wilson, Grant and Stills. The offensive line should be at least a tad above average. They drafted Gesicki, whose athletic ability is quite simply off the charts at the tight end position. And he has a pretty good quarterback in Ryan Tannehill.

Agree with you. The offense should take off. This unit should be, at the bare minimum, a little above the league average.

I like the pass potential of the front seven, but question how this group will fare against the run. The offense absolutely has to get some leads, then you play to the strength of the defense.

Before you knew where the double team was going, on #95, now the double may go more towards the outside rushers.
