What have been your biggest disappointments as Phins fans? There have only been a few instances where I've been really dsicouraged about being a Phins fan but the feelings never lingered for more than a day (well, except for once, which I will get into). I am a lifelong Phins fan and always will be (I'm 28 so I really don't remember getting run over by Riggins in SB XVII).

In no particular order:

1.) 1994 playoffs vs San Diego. 15 point half-time lead. Blown. I still remember sitting in the recliner at my parents' house (I was 15) and seeing Pete Stoyanovich's kick sail wide. The other I remember is that safety (then controversial) called when Parmalee was tackled in the endzone but hit the pylon with the football. Enberg and Trumpy (yes, I remember this game very well) debated that the safety should not have counted because the ball hit the pylon.

2.) 1985 AFC championship. I remember watching with my dad as Miami lost to NE. I don't know if Miami would have beaten Chicago a second time, but they definitely would have given them a better game than 46-10

3.) 1993 season. 9-2 to 9 -7 . Marino goes down with the Achilles in game 5. The team perservered with Scott Mitchell and Steve Deberg. The season then collapsed when the defense forgot how to tackle.

4.) 1995 season. This was the year they loaded their roster. They finished 9-7 and were destroyed by Buffalo in the wild-card round. I relaly thought they were a Super Bowl team that year.

5.) 1999 playoffs. vs jacksonville. 'nuff said.

6.) vs. Pittsburgh in 1989 and 1993. 1989 was the downpour game. 1993 was on MNF. Steve Deberg was driving the phins for awinning field goal and then threw a pick to Rod Woodson to seal a 21-20 win for Pitt. Pitt games have special importance to me because I live about 75 mins from Pittsburgh and everyone here is a Steelers fan (including my wife). When Pitt beats Miami, I hear about it for weeks. 1984 AFC championship was great. Everyone at church ripped my dad and I that morning (My dad's a Phins fan too). My uncle called me the night before and said "Pittsburgh's gonna beat Miami" and hung up.

7.) Super Bowl XIX. Miami lost because of one reason. The defense could not contain Roger Craig (montana was MVp but had the defense been able to contain Craig, it could have turned the game around)

8.) 1999 Dan Marino retires. I was not a Jimmy Johnson fan before he arrived in Miami and am even less of one now. He treated Dan like he was a practice squad QB and as Dan Lebetard said, "Nobody treats Dan marino with cold-hearted precision. Not in this town, not ever." Everyone knew Dan struggled that final season and Johnson did not need to stir things up by pointing that out. I was glad when Jimmy resigned.

9.) 2004 pre-season. I was driving back from my fiance's (no wife) housee when I heard on ESPN radio that Ricky Williams retired. After I learned the reason, I was very angry and got rid of my Ricky Williams jersey. This was amde worse by the fact that had he retired 3 weeks sooner, the Dolphins could have signed a good free-agent back (Corey Dillon and Eddie George were available)

10. 2006 draft. Brady Quinn was sitting there at 9 and they took Ted Ginn. They needed a QB (I know we got beck in the 2nd round but I wanted Quinn). Everytime I see him in his Browns jersey I think back to that day. he should be in Aqua and orange, not brown and orange.

Last year.. John Beck.. watching the snap sail over his head.. watching the ball slip out his hand which looked essentially like a backward pass..

I so looked forward to his starting.. I argued and argued and pleaded on this board for him to start and stop the bleeding.. He tore the wound wide open.

I agree with you but ...i guess i look at management.... when Jimmy handed evrything to wanny/speilman ...being from chicago i knew what was gonna happen.... then the big blow was hiring cam / randy .... i had the same feeling as i did when wanny was hired

i forgot one. 1986 vs the Jets. as mark Clayton stated, "When you score 45 points and lose, there's some holes that got to be filled."

I think the way Dan was pushed out by Juiommy was the worst. After all he has done and meant to the Dolphins they should let him retire on his own terms. I also was depressed when Ricky retired. That was a crushing blow.

Yeah, i know what you mean. I always liked Wannstedt as a guy but as a coach, there is something missing. He is very even-keeled which can come across as a lack of passion and commitment. I am a University of Pittsburgh grad so I still have to put up with the man (he's the same at Pitt as he was in Miami). I was NOT a big fan of hiring Cam Cameron. I have renewed hope with parcells. Sometimes, I still hav eto catch myself and remember that Parcells is not the coach.

The 2002 season is by FAR the most recent dissappointment by the Dolphins. 7 Pro Bowlers . . . comming off of a huge win against Oakland (AFC Super Bowl reps that year) . . . we started to play Wanny ball against Minnesota and New England . . . led in both games . . . and lost by 3 at the end in both games . . . we missed the playoffs, literally throwing away Ricky's 1800 yard season.

That was the year fellas, that was the year we were supposed to be Super Bowl bound, and we didn't even make the playoffs . . . that team was SICK, the defense was incredible.

that was bad. Weren't there like 5 teams in the AFc that went 9-7 that year? (us, NE, Cleveland, NYJ, Pitt, and I think a couple others). I still remember that gut-wrenching loss at Buffalo where Ricky rushed for 221 (in basically 3 quarters because he got very few runs in the 4th because we were trailing)

That wa salso the year Ray Lucas played horribly as Fiedler's backup

Agreed. I really thought we were going places that year, especially after that epic with Denver, and then later in the season, the win against Oakland.

Who knew Fiedler meant that much to that team?

I had renewed hope in 2006 when we signed Culpepper. I still think he got a bad deal in Miami. I know pro football is a win-now business but had he been given ample time to fully recover, he may have worked out.

Was that Denver game the Chris Chambers injury game and when Mare hit that 50+ yard FG at the end? That game was a classic . . . along with the Oakland game.

That fact that Fiedler meant so much to the team shows you how bad the GM was back then . . . not to have addressed a young QB to be waiting in the wings in case Jay went down. You know your QB situation is bad when you are PRAYING for Fiedler to get healthy and save the team.

I don't know if CPep had the will to rehab properly and get himself back fully. It is not easy, but necessary with the type of injury he had. Fact is . . . I understood what Saban was trying to do with Pep, but it wasn't the right decision . . . not comming off that type of injury, and not for a 2nd round pick. He should have paid Drew Brees, kept his pick and moved on. Not saying we would be any more successful . . . who knows, but that would have been the best move.

By far the 2002 season...we were 5-1 when Fiedler went down...we lost the next 3 in a row with Ray Lucas starting, that put us at 5-4. Lucas had to perform worse than any QB I've ever seen in the NFL. We never fully recovered that year when Fiedler returned.
But we ended up only needing to win one of the last 2 games of the season against the Vikings and the Patriots to make the playoffs...we lost both games by a very close margin.
Also losing Gadsten that year also hurt....and the last 2 games of the year we were without OG Jamie Nails, our best run blocker and one of the best single season performance of any Dolphin OG.
I still feel like we were the best team in the NFL that year. That was the best team we had since the early 70's.

I wonder which two first rounders we couldve gotten with the two firsts we gave NO for Ricky....
