If Fins win out and Ravens win out their final 4 after losing to the Packers tonight, the Ravens would beat us out for the playoffs!

We need to win out AND the Ravens would need to lose one of their final 4 (they play Detroit, Chicago, Pitt, and Oakland) only realistic loss could be @ pittsburgh with Polamalu back.

OR

We could take the division if Fins go 4-0 and Pats lose to either Jax, Houston, or Buffalo. Pats losing to the Pats this Sunday vs. Carolina doesnt do a whole lot. Then again, the more losses the better for the Pats.

There are some other scenarios involving the Broncos but they realistically, they can lose 2 of their final 4 and still get in.

I'm not really worried about the Jags after we beat them (I'm a fan, I can say that). Jags still play Colts and @ New England.

Miami could even get in at 9-7 if the Ravens lose to the Steelers.

I wouldn't count out any team to beat them or us. The way this season is playing out, pretty much anyone can beat anyone any given week.

Hell the Skins gave the Saints all they can handle. I think we need to try and get to 8-6 and see how it looks from there. By that time it will be much more clearer who we need to lose. By then, we might even control our own destiny (assuming we win out next two).

and i keep thinking people would learn from last year ...

look, i know the odds of making the playoffs are not big, but that's not the point... In football, much like in life... people, teams, organizations need to do their best and have an impact on what they can control, influence, change...

No one ever made the playoffs by thinking "the hell with it there's too many ifs"

" Winners win, quitters quit "

Or the Patsies lose another and we win the division. Then we don't have to worry about all the different scenario nonsense.

Well, the Ravens just lost, so they are 6-6. They still got tough games against Chicago and the Steelers. Hey, even the Raiders have owned the AFC North this season.

Chicago is not a roll over either. The Ravens offense is ugly at best. Their D is also banged up.

If they lose to the Bears or the Steelers and we win out, we make the playoffs. We just need to win 4 games and we make the playoffs, everything will set itself.

Screw wild card, I want the division. NE will drop at least 1 more game now that they have been exposed on defense, and to some regard, offense. The saints passed all over them, we passed all over them, and I can only assume the rest of their opponents will emulate this behavior. Carolina has nothing to lose by letting their young QB get his feet wet and throw all over the place.

In any case, we need to win first, analyze later. We will take this division!

Well we control it for the most part. Its just the Ravens it could be the jags, pitt, texans, etc in hoping to lose, but we win and thats handled. So just the pesky Ravens, other than the Ravens and pats, the others don't matter if the pats lose one and the ravens win two. They lost one today already against the pack and they get a rematch against the steelers at pittsburgh.

Due to the following NFL tiebreaker for two wildcard teams:

TO BREAK A TIE FOR THE WILD-CARD TEAM

If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken.
  1. If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tie breaker.
  2. If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps.
Two Clubs

  1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
  2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
  4. Strength of victory.
  5. Strength of schedule.
  6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
  7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
  8. Best net points in conference games.
  9. Best net points in all games.
  10. Best net touchdowns in all games.
  11. Coin toss.

Assuming the Dolphins win the remaining games (which are all against teams in the AFC [a good thing] and versus 3 other potential playoff teams [a good thing]), and either the Ravens or Steelers win out, here's how it will go:

Dolphins (10-6):

1.) Dolphins will be 4-2 in their division and 8-4 in their (AFC) conference.

Assuming Ravens win out, going 10-6, and beating Pittsburgh a second time.

Ravens (10-6):

1.) There is no head-to-head with the Ravens, so tiebreaker #1 doesn't apply.
2.) Ravens would also be 8-4 in the conference. So, tiebreaker #2 is a wash.
3.) Common games with Dolphins: Colts, Chargers, Patriots, Steelers

That's 5 games total for each.

Dolphins would be 2-3 in common games, for a winning percentage of .400
(losses to Colts, Chargers, Patriots)

Ravens would be 3-2 in common games, for a winning percentage of .600
(losses to Colts and Patriots)

Therefore, Baltimore would get the nod over Miami for a wildcard spot if the Ravens win out.

If the Steelers win out (putting Baltimore with 7 losses, and the Dolphins at 7 losses), then they get in.

the pats are going to lose at the bills and at houstan. they cant win on the road. if we take care of business we will win the division.
