Hey guys i just looked up some data about the fins 1st round selections over the past forty years. The dolphin did not have a 1st round selection 9 times that 22.2%. Then the straight out bust came out to 17 1st round picks 42%, and to round out the rest that was respectful to god or outstanding 34%. I found it was extremely facinating that they had GM's that was making bad decisions way before spielman got there he just continued the history.:err: Here is a list of of the dolphins picks

bust players

Rick Norton David Overstreet
jim Graboskwi Jackie shipp
Doug Crusan Eric kumerow
Mike Kadish Billy Milner
Don Reese Darryl carlton
Randall Hill John Avery
john Bosa sammie smith
john Giesler
Jamar fletcher
Lary gordon

Those players were not all busts.
David Overstreet was well on his way to becoming our feature back when he died in a car accident.
Crusan played 7 years for us, and started in Super Bowl VI.
Don Reese was a very good player, before the whole cocaine thing backfired on him.
John Giesler was probably the 2nd best LT in our team's history. He was a rock at LT during the 1980's.
Larry Gordon was an outstanding player for us before he died of a heart attack while jogging. He was selected as a starting OLB on the Dolphins' 25th Anniversary Team.
Sammie Smith was a serviceable RB for us for a few years.
John Bosa was an outstanding player but was derailed by knee injuries.

It may be the opposite now. Mueller's ability to find talent in the first two rounds is almost uncanny. After that though, it's pretty abyssmal. Seeing his draft history, I wouldn't mind giving up our 6th and 7th round picks to move up in rounds the first day, or get an extra first day pick if thats possible.

I can name 2 more that are average and have not lived up to there pick but i would get hammered.Anyways not all of them were bust but average..

Im sure most NFL teams have had their fair share of bust 1st Round "bust" players. Its not just the Fins.

"Sammie Smith was a serviceable RB for us for a few years."

no he wasn't, he was awful. he single handledly cost miami several games with his major fumbling problem. he was booed out of town.

Hopefully that changes this year.

i love our 1st round picks of the last two years.......

some people just arent used to us having our first pick so when we do they expect us to draft instant pro-bowlers:shakeno:

to some Ronnie won't be worth his pick until he passes Emmit Smith..... And Jason Allen... well he's washed up already right ??

I don't really think it's fair to label a player a "bust" if his career is halted by injury. That should fall in another category.

My bad. He really only had 1 decent season for us. I lump him and Lorenzo Hampton together. Both were "3 yards and a cloud of dust" runners for us.
