The Miami Dolphins haven't drafted a defensive player in the first round since ...Dion Jordan 2013. They same year they drafted back-to-back defensive players in CB Jamar Tayor. (and we all know how that went.) Something they haven't done since Percells went with Odrick and Koa Misi in 2010. They've had 3 straight years of offensive players in the first rd. As a matter of fact, they've drafted defensive players only twice in 7 drafts. Whats the meaning of al these ?

Look at the defense and look our draft history! Moreover; most of us fans do believe Forest lamp is going to be the pick at 22. That would make it twice in 8 drafts with no first rd defensive player. And the beat goes on...We hear defense wins championship every time and the past five Superbowls, the defense has delivered.

More bad news, Tannenbum is not a good defensive draft guy. Reason he hasn't drafted a single linebacker in the past two years, he sucks at it. He knows good corners and that's all ! His best defensive player- Darrel Revis. Who he traded 1st,2nd and 5ft rd picks for.( All worth it by the way.) His second best-Muhammed Wilkenson. His 6 yrs draft with the Jets are filled with offensive players, same with his two years in Miami. That stupid stunts he pulled last year in the 3rd rd were unnecessary. The Drake and Caroo picks should have gone to defensive players. So lets lock Mike T.'sass up for just one day. April 27th, 2017. Who's with me ?

You're putting this all on Tannenbaum. However, even though there was consensus, it was said by all involved that Grier was running the show. Too early to tell if Grier is any good or not. Hopefully he learned a lesson last year regarding the Carroo pick, and nails it this year!

Good players win Super Bowls. When you keep drafting duds like Parker, Jordan, odrick and countless o linemen that sucked ass early you're going to remain bad.

Hell, john Avery Jason Allen Ted ginn....put best first rounds picks have been tunsil and tannehill the last 15 years and tunsil was luck.

Tannenbaums best defensive pick, Darrelle Revis. Pro bowler. His next best pick, Muhammad Wilkerson. Also a pro bowler. And in his years with the Jets, they've consistently had a top 5 defense.

And we should lock Tannenbaum away, because in 2013, years before he even got here, we drafted Dion Jordan?

Or we should lock him away because in the 2 years that he was here, we used our first round picks to help our crippled offense?

I'm not sure what you're getting at

I don't agree that it's fair to throw Parker into that kettle of fish. The kid is a player and unless I miss my guess he'll be outstanding this year. Other than that you're totally correct. Our terribly incompetent drafting along with the hiring of awful coaches has killed any chance this team had at improving. We now have the right coach, if we can start hitting on some great players instead of whiffing we just might get somewhere. You can't hire Joe Philbin and draft Dion Jordon unless you enjoy losing. This draft will go a long way at determining the direction we're heading. There's no need to get crazy with all the draft day trades. If you sit at #22 you're going to get an outstanding d-line or LBer, in round 2 shore up the o-line, the players will be there. As I've said before concerning my frustration regarding our previous drafts, " A MONKEY COULD DO IT." At #22 get Reddick, Willis, Taco, Cunningham, Davis, Watt, McMillian or Barnett, don't think they'll all be gone. Round #2 take Pocic, Elflien, Lamp, Robinson, Asiata or Johnson, pick one. For example, let's say we get Cunningham and Johnson, maybe there were better guys but we just helped our team dramatically imo. When you start trying to outsmart everybody you make mistakes and usually end up outsmarting yourself like the Caroo deal last season. Get cute later in the draft, round 1 and 2 bring in starters. Some people have torn apart Cunningham's game but when I look at the kid I see a better LBer than we've had in ages. He was first string All America on a ton of teams, I'd say he can play. I also think he'll be sitting there at #22. Nobody knows which one of the front 7 guys will be the best, just make sure to snag one of the elite ones then bring in o-line help. I'm really hoping they don't over think it.

Lock him away so doesn't trade away picks.

Wat?!?

Tannenbaum drafted David Harris who played for 10 years
6 season of 100+ tackles and averaged 100 tackles a year for his 10 year career

Last year we picked a bunch of college nicked up players in Tunsil, Drake, Lucas, undersized TE and undersized a undesized PR/KR and 3 smaller school prospects in Howard and Caroo. So lets see how this turned out.
Tunsil fell down in the shower and missed a couple of gamr. Drake was hurt in the preseason and was nicked up through out the year, Lucas not much news about him, Howard looked like a winner out of the bunch but lasted about 7 games due to injury, Carroo looks like he never grasped the playbook, the TE never bulked up enough to contribute at TE, the undersized KR/TE kept fumbling the ball and the last pick stayed on the PS. Considering we were picking much higher in every round last year and reviewing last years draft and we have a veteran draft department with Grier and Tannabaum its difficult for me to expect alot in this years draft after reviewing last year's performance.
But I do have hope and that hope is that Gase sticks his nose in it this year. Part of that hope resides that perhaps Gase was the deciding factor this year on resigning our own free agents after we let a bunch walk in free agency last year. I am hoping Gase is smart enough to realize going to be up to him to find his players and not rely on Tannabaum and Grier. The only more I would ask for is for Gase to trade back in this draft if possible and gain picks as I am a believer there are very good picks in every round and the more picks you have the greater your chances of succes.

Draft history is nonsense. The Lions 21st overall pick this year has more relevance to our pick than the our entire franchise draft history

You are correct when looking at selection spot in the draft but the draft history is very revelent when applied to the draft history of your GM.

We have said many things about who was in charge, previously we acted like Tannebaum wasnt in charge and later we saw that he was, so who knows

I like to look at the history and indications from everything I have read Tannabaum has been in charge at the Jets, Browns and last year here. I am hoping with Gases success last year it give him the leverage to call the shots in the draft department. He appears to be a guy big on accountability through performance. Last year when the team was struggling he made changes. Gase you would think after this season realize that last years draft class did not contribute enough and must do better this year.

I don't really call last years 34-28 game a defensive win.
..that game took offense to win.

I also think Superbowl 47 at 34-31 wasn't a defensive dominated win...thats 2 of the last 5.

I would say 2 were and 2 were not...the 5th one can be argued.

It's a matter of perspective. While we've had ups and downs lately ... most of us have been fans long enough to remember the droughts where we'd get one decent player every 3 drafts ... and most of our drafts brought mediocrity or players not worth re-signing. We've had success recently compared to those dark times. I'm not singing our front office's praises ... but they have brought us some talent.

Tunsil is a stud. Lots of good drafting front offices didn't draft him, including Ozzie in Baltimore. We made a good choice. Howard was the last of the truly top echelon CB's, and the kid has flashed a lot of potential. He came into the NFL younger than most prospects, but learned a great deal as a rookie, and his future looks quite bright. Two successes in a draft is a good draft. But we also had some success with Drake and I'm still hopeful that Grant will prove to be a good selection. Last year's draft was surprisingly good, IMHO.

At the time, I noted that I didn't like the trades to acquire Caroo, and that I wasn't sure he was actually an Anquan Boldin type, despite the hype. IMHO, my concerns have proven correct. But he can still contribute.

This draft offers us a lot of pass rushing talent. IMHO, we will either take a pass rusher or two in the first 2 rounds, or we will regret it down the road. Very few classes are this deep in pass rushers. We would be well served to take advantage of that before Wake retires.
