I put up this thread before the draft. It was a good discussion, with a number of posters wanting to wait until we saw what we got, which we now have.

I thought we would have maybe one impact player for THIS year, and am thinking the same. I believe that James could well have a good year as a starter. I don't see Laundry getting many snaps IF our other four are healthy but, could make some plays. I see Turner as needing a year to develop, and could challenge next year.

I don't see anyone else making an immediate impact other than special teams, which we can really use. It could happen but, is very unlikely.

Your thoughts on how many will impact THIS year's team?

In my mind when you haven't had a winning record in five years and your projection is that only one of your draftees can start then your draft was not a success. It might not be a failure but it certainly wasn't a success. After all, if you have five years of 7-9, 6-10 and 8-8 records and your draft picks can't supplant the talent you have in place, then your coaching staff is not using that talent properly. If you can't accept that then you must accept that the talent is subpar and the draft picks just aren't good enough to beat out subpar talent. Let's hope that a new right tackle is enough to make a difference.

It is a problem when last year, and likely this year, there may only be one rookie starter. That only should happen to VG playoff or SB teams. It is also disturbing that having $40M to spend in FA each of the last two years, that it has not worked out as well as it should have. JMO

The one starter is only starting because of no depth
plus the gm and don't want to look bad

Bully Gate had something to do with that, even with the expiring contracts. Everyone has said that this was the deepest draft in over 10 years but, do not see that advantage to the Dophins.

I kinda feel like Miami should have stayed at 50 and drafted one of the players drafted between 50 and 63.
I still contend that they wanted Latimer, took a gamble and lost when Denver jumped ahead of them. Latimer fit the mold of what they needed: a big man running sub-4.5. Landry might be OK but might be an overachiever who gets blanked out at the next level.
Then, I think Jean-Baptiste was another guy they should've taken by saying at 57 instead of trading down again, or just get a better cornfed with Moses instead of getting a position of little need and getting a total project cornfed later in Turner.

There's a well-researched, statistically proven study that shows how draft picks fare by round. 3rd-round picks become NFL starters 1/3 of the time. After round three it falls off a cliff. 4th round picks are less than 20% likely to be NFL starters. Beyond that it's truly needles in haystacks.
This isn't speculation; it's literally looking at what's happened over the past 7 years to picks in different rounds. Trading down from the second round on down is just F'n retarded.

James and Billy Turner definitely start as rookies. Landry will not start, but he will likely be on the 53 see some action in some packages. The other guys will either be ST or practice squad.

I think there's only one starter this year and that's James. New gm deep draft and I can't help but feel its the same old same old. Oline picks and ignore true difference makers

James and Landry start. Turner used in rotation. Atkins in nickel. The rest.........?

Agree on James as the likely starter but, see Turner needing a year to challenge, at least I hope so.

Do you see Landry taking Gibson's spot? Can't agree for this year.

James starts, Anthony Johnson gets in the rotation and surprises.

"Starting" really isnt a great term to use.

I dont think Jordan will "start" this year...but he will play much more, probably as many snaps as Vernon for example.
Jamar Taylor might not "start" although I think he will...if he doesnt he will be in during Nickel.

As for this class. James starts day one. Turner starts day 1 probably at LG. He might be raw but your joking if you think Dallas Thomas is going to beat him out (unless hes vastly improved). Landry will see significant snaps as well.

James- starts at RT
Landry- Will compete for spot. Will most likely make the team.
Turner- should start at guard
Aikens- will compete, but won't start. He should make the team.
Lynch- He could make the team since he's a complete TE. Not a star, but a solid complete one. Especially if Miami is going to run two TE sets. We'll see.
Tripp- could be a future starter. He should at least contribute on ST his first year.
Hazel- he should compete for a spot, but IDK if he we will get it. Might be a practice squad player.
Fede- I doubt he makes the team. Too much depth on the DL. Maybe in the future he will develop into a contrubtor for us.

Overall, we got leaders. But more importantly, we got guys with a lot of starts. Last year we got a lot of injured players and they didn't contribute right away. This draft filled a lot of needs and really looks like it could help the team right away.

I did say impact as opposed to starters in the OP. No matter, I have no idea who will start at OG. Shelly, Dallas, Brenner, Turner or, needing to sign a vet. However, in no way do I want two rookie starters. It could lead to being as bad as last year.
