Dolphins Draft L-Train - Player Profile inside

Great. A drafted player who already has a catchy nickname. Within a couple days people will swear he is going to be a pro bowler sometime in the next 3 years for us before he even sees any snaps in the regular season.

Not that he might not be a good or even great player. I have no clue. Just saying we've been down this road and anytime a player has a nickname like this everyone starts sweating him before he even plays in the league.

Umm, if you actually read the links and didn't spew off before not knowing the details, you'd know that was his given nickname in college.

No one here gave him that nickname..

hey greyboy thanks for bringing reason to this weekend, I appreciate it.
I like what BP and co. tried to do.

No one here gave him that nickname, so enough with your silly remarks.

I did. And I never said you gave him that name. I was aware that was his nickname from years ago. All Im saying is he already has a nickname and that has a way of people inflating their view of him. No offense to you at all.

And btw, thanks for posting all the good info on some of these later round picks. Good stuff you have found on all the guys. Very informative.

ok, my bad. I must have took it the wrong way.

Sometimes things don't translate well in print and it's hard to distinguish tone unless you're speaking to them in person..

I edited out the last portion of my previous post accordingly.

Believe me. I run into that problem alot.

Wasnt trying to be negative about the player or your posts. Just saying.....a nickname, especially a catchy one like L-train or anything train, has an effect that causes people to like him more than they should before he even plays. So then when he plays even if he isnt good, people still like him. Happens all the time. Especially around here.

I really want to avoid the trap that happened last year where every player was a future pro bowler before they even played. Now there are players who are overvalued in peoples minds and if you criticize them at all it gets bad. Thats all. Heck, I fell into the trap a little last year too. I wanted to believe we had a killer draft. Im gonna chill this year and see how these guys play. The one guy I think we can go ahead and assume will be a solid player is J.Long. Big problem if he isnt at least a top 10 LT.

And positions like OL, FB, and stuffing DLmen it can be difficult to evalute their talents for non-pros. So alot of people cant really tell if a player is any good and if he is dubbed good right out of the draft thanks to a nickname, then he just is no matter what. Mauia is a prime example of what Im talking about.

So we have a choice of being optimistic or pessimistic, we should be the latter?

Wonderful. Let me try: AWFUL PICK.

Nah, doesnt work.

LOL. The sig will be off later tonight. I hope. Im pretty lazy and Im busy posting.

Not trying to be pessimistic. Not judging the player at all. Just making an observation about human behavior.

Want some positives....here ya go... Keep in mind though that I am sold on ZERO of these players so far, but will be glad to point out some positives to make you feel better.

J.Long - Should be the cornerstone of our offense for years. Beast of a run blocker.

Merling - Steal of the draft if he is healthy. Good against the run and can rush the passer. NICE

Henne - Has the arm to get it done in the right system where play action passing is the emphasis. Tough in the pocket. As long as he is protected well, can pick a defense apart.

The kid from Hampton - Seems like he could be the traditional HUGE Parcells run stuffing DE.

Parmele - Might be a steal. Runs with POWER and Speed.

This L Train cat - Another BIG stuffer on the DL.

Plenty of good things to say about these players. We will see how well they play football on the NFL level.

:rolleyes2:

Why turn a good post into a negative thing yet again

I would label it more "bitter sarcasm" than pessimism.
