Here's an interesting view of what Miami's team could have looked like with only the players drafted by the team.

QB- Tannehill

RB- Miller and Ajayi

WR- Landry, Parker, Matthews

TE- CLAY

OL- Pouncey, Thomas, Turner Douglas,, James, LONG

DL- Vernon, ODRICK, Phillips, Shelby, Wake (?) Not drafted but played with no other team.

LB- Jenkins, Misi, Hewitt, Vigil, Jordan

S- Jones, Aikens

CB- VONTE DAVIS, SEAN SMITH

Not too bad. How much help have FA's really been?

Some spilt milk and what if's for sure but, something to think about. IF Big Jake is the 10 year fixture we hoped for and Jordan is the play maker he should have been, things look entirely different. Our picks were not that bad but, then they got to the coaches handling them.

It dangerous playing the what if game though, other teams could say similiar things.

One thing that sticks out is the complete lack of "special players". Maybe Parker becomes "special" but definitely a lot of safe players.

After Zach and JT being drafted 18 years ago, this team has had 3 special players . . . Ricky Williams, Suh and Cam Wake, none of them drafted. We have whiffed on farrr too many first round picks, hell rounds 1 to 3. Sure Jake had one and a half really great years but even him he was always vulnerable to speed rushers. Guys like Pouncey, OV, Jones, Landry . . They are good players, and good players can have great seasons, but they aren't special. That is what we have lacked in our drafting.

Parker has the potential to be special, we need more of that. Jalen Ramsey or Myles Jack fit this type, go after special in round 1 . . . not safe (Ragland . . . Juwan James)

clearly we havent done very well at drafting Olinement especially guards and Linebackers...

So we would STILL have the same issues, the only place that wouldnt be a concern would be Cornerback

When you look at the above draft picks and compare them to FA, how much has FA helped us? We have gone through many for a ton of money and we have Albert, who is always hurt, Grimes who is old, and Suh who is great. All three are great players but, how have they helped out team to do anything more than we would have done without them?

What would have been the difference if we just kept our own and not paid for FA's?

True. Just looking at if our picks were as bad as many think in the players taken.

Smith...3 year $18 million contract probably will get more this off season
Davis...4 year $36 million
Odrick..5 year $42.5 million
Clay.....5 year $38 million

Grimes is getting the same as Davis. Suh and Albert are much more than the other three. What difference has it made?

Definitely wish the team kept Vonte Davis. He is now exactly what this team is looking for in a corner. I know he was immature and unfortunately not the type of personality that Joe Philibin wanted to deal with.

Not much there to get excited about on the offensive line or at linebacker and both of those positions are weak spots right now. Some positive, though, including wide receiver and quarterback.

Great point. Miami has missed numerous Hall of Fame type players over the last 10-20 years, which is one reason why the team resides where it is.

Some to consider (and not to be negative) ....
* Earl Thomas (team traded down and got Odrick, Misi)
* Rob Growonski (team took Misi)
* Aaron Rodgers (team took Ronnie Brown)
* Rey Lewis (team took Darryl Gardner..I know that's going back aways)
* Randy Moss (team traded out and took John Avery)
* Drew Brees (team took Fletcher)
* Vince Wilfork (team took Vernon Carey)

These are just a few that I remember, but that's leaving a lot of talent for other teams. Many of those guys will be in the Hall of Fame and none of the picks Miami made instead are even close to that caliber.

You build through the draft and try to keep your own players if reasonable. We have signed to many expensive free agents that have handicapped the rest of the team and also let too many good players leave and become really good somewhere else

Not too bad? Are you kidding...that ****ing sucks.

Long was only good for two years. OV massively overrated (I could give a **** about PFF...) Same goes for Odrick. Pouncey played well for 1 year and was average, at best, last year. Not one of the LB's is worth a damn. Thomas, Turner and Douglas...are you kidding me?

Ajayi, Parker, Phillips, Hewitt, and Vigil showed "potential"...but that's it. Nothing special at this point (that includes Parker.)

Don't even get me started on Jordan...

The reason you homers get blind-sided every year is your complete "over-evaluation" of the talent on this team.
