‘E’ trades: Ranking the worst deals involving draft picks in Dolphins history

Yesterday we brought you the best deals the Dolphins made involving draft picks. Today, equal time goes to the blooper reel — the deals the Dolphins wish they could take back, either because of what they gave up or what little they received in return.

1. DE Dion Jordan (2013)
Merely selecting Jordan, who has given the Dolphins nothing and spent infinitely more time on the suspended list than the field, is a blunder in and of itself. But moving up from 12th to third overall to take Jordan is borderline criminal. The move cost the Dolphins the 12th and 42nd picks. True, Oakland did nothing with those selections, taking CB D.J. Hayden and OT Menelik Watson, but whom would you rather have: Jordan or DT Sheldon Richardson and RB Le’Veon Bell, both of whom were available with Miami’s original draft slots? If you’re wondering why the Dolphins never make the playoffs, moves like this explain it.

2. QB Daunte Culpepper (2006)
We’ll make this brief to ease your pain. On paper, Culpepper cost the Dolphins a second-round pick. In reality, need we mention the QB Nick Saban sent away in favor of Culpepper? (Hint: Last name rhymes with ‘Geez.’)

Lamar Gordon for a 3rd round pick and AJ Feeley for a 2nd round pick NEED to be on any list like this...

It's not an all time blunder but trading out of position that could of yielded earl thomas, Dez Bryant of D Thomas for what wound up being odrick and misi

It's too early for Dion Jordan and Culpepper we rushed him back too soon. I would take the a knee injury over a throwing shoulder injury any day. To be honest I don't think Brees would have had the same success. I can't believer Lamar Gordon and AJ Feely trades were left out. Insane!!

going to #3 and only giving up a #12 and #42 was incredible value....the pick not so much

While Ricky Williams performed great for us when he actually played.....the cost of two first rounders was very steep

Agree on both points, although Ricky was originally a first and a third and he put up the greatest season ever by a Fins running back, so it turned that into a first.

I never complained about the move to draft Dion Jordan, loved the value but knowing the putz the guy is now, I am just disappointed that all of the time speaking with this kid, a red flag never popped up on him to make that type of move.

What about Cleo Lemons? Wasn't he a 2nd round draft choice?

Way Over-paying for Wallace and Suh. At least these players do make plays on the field.

Forcing Dan Marino to retire 1-2 years too early.

So many blunders. Surprised the vernon carey thing hasn't come up yet. Pretty good chance this year's trade out of the top 10 makes it on this list sooner than later.

Culpepper has the be the worst decision the Dolphins ever made. From top the bottom it turned into a disaster. The cherry on top, and a low point for me as a fan, was when he destroyed us against the Raiders and he kept pointing at his knee. I wanted to crawl through the screen and beat him to death..smh

You trade up for a guy 3rd overall (Dion Jordan) and you have absolutely no idea how to utilize him and have no plan at all for him? Not to mention his lackluster attitude. Thank you for that Ireland.

Trading away Welker has to be up near the top!

I mean with Welker that was more of Miami placing the wrong tender on him . . . similar to what Denver did with CJ Anderson. Miami should of just spent a little more and placed a first round tender on him and instead they placed a 2nd rounder tender and New England set up a poison pill type of deal that Miami could not match. Ultimately they worked out a trade and New England threw in a 7th.

A trade on paper, but it could of all been avoided.

Drafting Randall hill, paying him 2 million dollars then traded him after a week. Although that trade got us a first round draft pick the next year which I believed turned out to be either Troy Vincent or Marco Coleman

Off the top of my head...

I think JJ trading down and drafting J Avery,,,?
Jay Feeley trade....
