What does this all mean? Well, for some, it demonstrates that the 2009 draft was a disappointment, because the team didn’t make the selections that were expected (no linebackers, no offensive line, no nose tackle). However, for others, this draft spoke volumes about what the Miami brain trust thinks of its current roster.

Or it could just mean they took best available since no good nose tackles or pass rushers were available, like Ireland said in his post draft interview.

Nobody really drafts best available. Everybody knew going in we needed DBs and receivers. We come out with 3 DBs and 2 receivers. Last year, were the best available players coincidentally linemen 6 times or did we just need linemen? We drafted for need more than BPA.

Most coaches become very high on certain players leading up to the draft and try to do their best to hide it. I think our FO fell in love with a group of players, most of which more than likely ended up on our team, and did a very good job of hiding it. I trust this FO much more than the previous two regimes for one major reason, they have a system in place. This system is proven and they are all very familiar to it. Jeff may be a second year GM, but he has a lot of experince working with Bill and they have a similar idea of what kind of players they like. Sparano is in the same situation.

These guys have a very good grasp on the process of putting a team together and it involves more than aiming for the best draft grades by so called "experts".

"We paid close attention to positions that we call 'core positions,' and pass rush is obviously one of those core positions, but they didn't fall to us the right way,
so we went ahead and went for value."
