The Dolphins' handling of last weekend's draft is being questioned by one of the top prospects' representative.

Agent Lamont Smith said he and client Braylon Edwards were ''disappointed'' the Dolphins repeatedly led them to believe, on draft day and earlier, that the Michigan receiver would be Miami's first-round draft choice.

Coach Nick Saban clearly wanted other teams to think he would draft Edwards, hoping that would lead to bids for the No. 2 pick. But Saban, who selected Ronnie Brown, said Miami received no offers.

''It [bothers] me,'' Smith said. ``Your word is all you have in this business. . . . We have to have some lines that are not crossed and have to believe what people on the other side say. If I was negotiating a deal with them and said we have a deal, all heck would break loose if we backed out. . . .

'To call a kid on draft day and say, `We are going to pick [you],' and make that call to me -- that crosses the line. You don't use kids like that. You don't do that to a kid on that day. . . . It's stressful enough on that day. You can tell the press whatever you want. Now we understand how [they] do business.''

Did the Dolphin FO overstep the ethical boundaries by misleading the agent for one of the top prospects of the draft? Or is it all part of the smokescreen process and fair game?

Who do you think made the phone call and if it wasnt Saban do you think that person might have overstepped his authority ?

Will there be any consequences of such a action if true? I would like to hear your opinion and maybe Brett Tessler's if he is around..

Well, Rosenhaus used that same tactic with Willis McGahee to make a team bite, so Id say its fair game..

Why does Braylon Edwards care? He went 3rd overall instead of 2nd, and is still going to make a killing salary-wise. Now, if I was Aaron Rodgers, and the 49ers were negotiating with me, but didn't select me and I fell to the end of the 1st round, then I would be pretty disappointed.

But come on, wide-reciever was nowhere near as much of a need as RB was for us. We already have Chambers and Booker, who are both solid starters.

I am a firm believer that what you say you are going to do is what you do. You give your word, you stick to your word. If this scenario is true, then the Dolphins suck.

It's one thing to lead teams on but to call him during the draft and say we're picking you is too much.

What a joke. Until your name is called you are not picked, PERIOD.

People are such a bunch of babies and whiners anymore.

I wonder how on Earth you could ever like Politics then, if you take this stance, I do not believe you would ever be able to vote for ANYONE ever again. Its business.. Unfortunately, business by its very nature is cutthroat. Politics/Busniess is a process in which you must use others in order to achieve a goal.. Everyone involved in the process is aware of the potential of being used and to use others.

Why do you think the most successful businessmen are those that are not afraid to take others down? Climbing the corporate ladder, you must take others down, use others, in order to reach the top

What the Dolphins did was a strategy. Manipulating in order to bait another team to move up, which was in the best interest of the team. Unfortunately, in human society, honesty, contrary to popular belief, is not always the best policy, at least when it comes to business.

Are you serious? :roflmao: What kind of statement is that? Two things here, One -saying the Dolphins suck even if they did do it is something a Jets fan would say. Two - since when have we learned ethics from agents, those guys are the bottom feeders of the NFL.

This guy got duped and he's trying to save face, I'm not sure he even got that call he's refering to it's sounds like he's speaking hypothetically.

Cry cry cry Braylon.

Cry all the way to Cleveland for all I care.

This is ridiculous.

It was Saban's last try at getting someone to trade up for him(IMO).I'm still trying to decide whether it was "ethical' or not.Btw the way Saban did compare the draft to a war and we everybody knows alls fair in Love and War.

:roflmao::roflmao:

Then go find another team to cheer for. Maybe Fiedler over at the Jets is a man of his word.

This is just the agent trying to keep Edwards in the spotlight. The guy went 3rd, no one traded with Cleveland to get him. I don't believe all the talk about Saban being underhanded and advertising who they would take, just to get a trading partner. NEVER did Saban say he would take Smith, or Edwards, or Brown. NEVER. But people read all sorts of innuendo into Saban's statements to fulfill their own desire for underhandedness and deal making. The only thing I think Saban said was that he'd like to trade the pick because Miami had so many needs and so few picks. All this talk of Saban being a deceiver is bullsh*t.
