I am told, by someone directly involved, that the Dolphins are exploring the option of trading for Osi Umenyiora.

The information I was given suggests the Dolphins are willing to part with a 2nd round draft choice, and are currently asking a few players with front loaded contracts to restructure or take pay cuts to make room.

The obstacles:
-The Dolphins are willing to part with a 2nd round pick, the Giants want a first. There is a confidence that the Giants will budge.
-Umenyiora wants a 5 year contract at $12 million per season. The Dolphins are willing to meet those demands, but they want to back load the deal with minimal guarantees-- so they have the option to part ways if he hits his decline. His agent obviously is pushing for the opposite.

A deal is not likely imminent, and there seem to be other suitors for Umenyiora, but the Dolphins are among those that are closest to the Giants' and Umenyiora's demands. The soonest it would take place would be after the weekend.

Take it as you will.

good player, but we are stacked on d. if you are gonna trade a 2nd it better be for a qb or a playmaker

I try to make sense of things but what do we need him for and for that price?

He has said in the past that he didn't want to be an OLB and even if he did, that price doesn't guarantee a successful transition.

Typical of this regime.

They'd trade a 2nd round pick and give up $12 million per year for a defensive end, but wouldn't part with a 3rd round pick for a starting caliber QB.

Honestly, I wouldn't even mind this deal. They can trade all of our draft choices next year for all I care. These guys can't draft for ****.

Great player but I am NOT a fan of that move. I want offense! Would he start over Starks or Langford? I'm guessing Langford?

So Osi will be playing QB as well with this mortgaging of present and future? No way this happens unless there are a series of other moves to address other needs. How many Dlineman can a team collect when the offense is far from set? Priorities please...

Question is, where does he play in a 3-4 defense? The guy has made his living as a 4-3 DE.
