Dolphins Fail to Improve-Sun Sentinel article

they played a harder schedule this year and have beaten alot better teams, they have added guys to this roster that are young, if they had a healthy cpep they would be in the playoff hunt right now, the secret to the NFL is consistent QB play, we have not had that for six years, just get CPEP heathly and next year these guys will be writing something else

The facts of the article are undeniable. Saban made quite a few gambles and lost on every one of them.

i dont believe brees was a gamble we lost, everyone on this site that are medical experts all seem to agree that brees will not be around long, less then three seasons in my opinion vs CPEP who should recover almost fully by next year and play another six years, there were some mistakes, but you cant play in this league without a consitent QB

No disrespect intended, but the term "internet experts" is said with a derisive sneer for a reason...

believe me i am no internet expert, i see over 200 patients a week for close to 15 years now, and the injury that pennington and brees have do not allow for long careers and that is a medical fact, you can get two three years out of those shoulders, but they will become unstable faster then knees do

we need a QB that is going to be here for awhile, we have not been consistent at the position, i trully believe CPEP physically will be fine next year, the problem is mentally and that is not my field

CPEP's problem this year wasnt his knee. IT was he held onto the ball too long. That isn't a problem that goes away.

Palmer had the same injury as CPep and he bounced back fine. And his injury happened 2 months after Cpep.

The o-line wasn't great when Cpep played, granted. But its the same guys who Harrington is playing with. We can sugar coat this anyway we want. But Cpep's problem is between his ears. His "knee" is a convienet excuse Miami was able to use this year. Next year they won't be able too

Well, it seems like we are stuck with Culpepper so lets go get him the best damn protection we can. Let's move up and draft Joe Thomas OT, 22 yo, 6'8, 313 lbs and snag Eric Steinbach OG, 26 yo, 6'6, 290 lbs in FA. A couple of weeks ago I thought why would Miami move up for anyone but Brady Quinn? Then I looked up Joe T at 6'8, 313 pounds- thats a monster LT for years to come. We need one badly. Let's take the initiative.

You can have the best o-line in NFL history, if he is going to hold onto the ball too long, it doesn't matter. Holding onto the ball too long isn't about protection its about reading the defense and knowing what to do with the ball. Going through progressions and making the correct decision!

And getting him RANDY MOSS won't solve anything either. You know Oakland will move him this offseason and I pray to god Miami doesn't even entertain that!!!

Next year, when DC has his full mobility back, he'll be able to buy time and move around well enough to make up for his lack of quick decision making.
He'll get sacked, he'll make bad decisions and he'll turn the ball over but, he'll also make up for that with more big plays. So, what we're probably looking at is just as many turn overs as what we had this year but, they'll be off-set by far more scoring plays.

We should score, on average, of about 10 more points per game, and if the defense stays consistent with their play from this year, that will be plenty to make us a bonafide threat to reach the play-offs and from there, anything can happen.

Harder schedule? They were 1-6 against one of the easiest schedules in the league.

You honestly think DC will be playing until he's 36-37 yrs old at a high level. Heck, he hasn't played at a high level in 2 yrs.
Put down the eggnog. :D

BS brotha, BS. I'm not trying to be offensive in any way shape or from. I understand where you are coming from. I too noticed that Pepper's injury wasn't the only reason for his lack of success but the above statement is BS. Half of the reason Tom Brady is as successful as he is is because that O-line gives him all the time in the world. And when you get all the time in the world recievers break routes and get open. I'm not taking anything away from Brady. He's a great QB regardless. But he's not 3 superbowls great without that O-line. Look at what an underachieving Phins team did to the guy with pressure. Momentum and rythm are a huge part of football and when a defense is able to consistently knock you off your rythm and take away your momentum it's a huge deal. We've all seen Brady go on those drives where something just clicks in the guy and you know without a doubt in the world that he's gonna beat cha. But if you punch him in the mouth, you can change the entire outcome of the game. Same goes for any QB. As bad as Pepper's decision making was, you have to wonder what it would have been like if he wasn't getting punched in the mouth every other play.

The team was garbage this year, plain and simple. The line didnt come together till it was already too late, theres a reason Harrington was signed as a backup (best used in moderation), Ronnie Brown couldnt stay healthy and overall we wasted our great offensive talents through terrible offensive coordinating. The defense looked fantastic during stretchs but unfortunately couldnt score enough defensive touchdowns to win all the games the offense lost for them (can you ask as much from a defense as Miami did to theirs this season?). Next year our defense will be a year older and a tad slower so that strengh will only be tougher to maintain while our offensive hopes will still hinge on the gimpy knee of a QB who has done nothing since being parted from Randy Moss.

Hopefully we use our high pick to get LB Paul Posluzny and sure up our line-backing core for years to come and pray DC gets healthy (both physically and mentally). Until then this has been maybe the worst season in recent Dolphin history (given the high expectations headed into this season).
