I was just watching my local news and they had a story about a guy who won superbowl tickets, vip treatment, and a stay at the downtown marriot (I think that was the hotel) for $0.05 on eBay. During the story they showed his "shrine" to the Dolphins.

I was hoping the video would be up on their website so I could post the direct link, but it's not yet. Keep an eye open at www.abc4.com for the video and/or text.

Turns out it was a mistake on the sellers part but that he will honor the bid. I guess we will see this week if the tickets really show up or not.

What did the seller do, list it wrong or somehow have a 5 cent Buy It Now? Amazing incompetence for such a big value item. Must have been a company. I'm always looking for eBay steals and inevitably corporations screw up and don't know the value/improperly list their items, not individual sellers.

I think it was an individual. The seller asked for more money and they agreed on $50, which is still a steal. The news report showed an online conversation between the two and in it was the sellers phone number unedited. I hope all of this shows up on their site tomorrow. If not I will tivo the news cast tomorrow morning..it might show up on it and then I can convert and post the story.

I'm surprised a Jets fan didn't post a $45, 000 bid at the last second and respond hastily by saying "Ha, we finally beat you at something!"

How come nothing like that ever happens to me? Every day I pray for a non lethal car accident where I get a huge setelment; meanwhile people are finding Superbowl tickets for five cents:fire:

i'll bet anything that this is either a) a fake news story b) fake ebay auction c) seller doesnt honor it

That's very possible. I just checked the Completed Items list on eBay for Super Bowl tickets in the Event Tickets category and I didn't find the listing mentioned here. Everything sold for thousands.

There was one strange auction with a Buy It Now of 11 cents for 4 Super Bowl tickets. It makes no sense because it says the auction was withdrawn due to an error in the listing, but somehow it says the auction lasted for 6 days from January 4 until January 10. Maybe eBay lists it that way if the auction is withdrawn, still including the original end date and time instead of when the auction was withdrawn: http://cgi.ebay.com/4-SUPERBOWL-XL-...594322188QQcategoryZ16122QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
