The Dolphins ranked as the 15th best team in financial support, 23rd best at social media participation, and ninth best in fans traveling out of South Florida. Add those rankings together and you get a mighty mediocre average of the 14th-best fans in the NFL.

While 14th best isn't the worst ranking, it would be hard to blame Dolphins fans for investing less and less money, time, and resources into the team. The Dolphins haven't won a playoff game since 2000, and have only made it to the postseason three times in the last 18 years.

Considering Dan Marino will turn 57 in September and the Dolphins have won only a single playoff game since he retired, it's not surprising that Fins fans aren't that motivated to tweet about their team.

Well everytime I go to a game in Baltimore there are many, and I do mean many, Fun fans at the game. Its still is kinda surprising. The fans travel well.

For a team based in Florida, it’s pretty surprising we travel well. The states population is made up of a large number of transplants from other states. You would think the fans would have similar demographics.

I think part of why we travel so well is that we move away from Florida as much as other fans move into the state. So we have transplanted fans all over the country. That helps to reduce travel costs for seeing away games but also likely hurts our home attendance as well.

Very interesting how they rank fans as well

It was the year after he retired too, i.e. a very long time ago.

You basically have to be no younger than 21 or 22 to have even a fleeting memory of the Dolphins winning a playoff game.

As an aside, I remember Marino turning 30 during the 1991 season. I was a senior in high school. Now he's soon to be 60 and I'm way older than he was back then. And yet I remember it as if it were yesterday (we lost to the Lions that day in what turned out to be a disappointing season).

lions were good that yr. they were one games away from sb.

It's hard to pinpoint one reason why the Dolphins have fallen so far for so long although the topic has been discussed many times over the years, Dolphins fans especially the older ones say over 40, have become weary over these rankings the past 10 to 15 years. Personally, I could care less and am more result oriented at this point.

Given how diffused our media market is, with every sport under the sun in Miami, and multiple teams in football (Miami, Tampa, and Jacksonville in the NFL, as well as major colleges like Miami, Florida, Florida State, and growing powers like South Florida) it is easy to see how the Miami market fanbase can be diluted. I'm actually pretty impressed by those numbers. They're all higher than I would have expected, and I think they bode well for a team that has only had one 10 win season in a decent while, and won no playoff games since Marino was QB.

So, yeah, I'll gladly take those metrics! Just imagine how we'll do if we actually start winning things and consistently progress in the playoffs. The fact that we took over the stadium of the Jets, and Chargers recently was awfully impressive to me. We may not travel like Pittsburgh or Chicago … but that was impressive.

*Couldn't......

The phrase you are looking for is "couldn't" care less....absolutely shocking how many people make this mistake on a daily basis

How exactly do you rate fandom?

I'm a better fan than you!

No you're not!

Yes I am!

And sorry, if spending money is a measure of how much of a fan you are than I'm a shitty fan. I haven't bought a jersey in 8 years and the only money I'll spend on the team is this website and actual games.

Sports in the State of Florida have taken a massive hit over the last few years.

College football with the Big Three has become mediocre, the jags last year were the first FL NFL franchise.to make a title game in a number of years, and baseball and hockey are not a factor. The Heat have fallen off.

The only team to win a title in the last 5 years was the Gators' CWS win last year.

The Dolphins are not alone. At least we don't have a rapist/molester playing QB.

Same here in New Jersey. New Jersey is loaded with Dolphin fans at Jets games and even the Giants even though it happens 1 every 8 to 10 years...
