USA Today on Dolphins' fate: All depends on who takes the snaps

Here's an optimistic preview by USA today on the Miami dolphins 2007 season.

Outlook: Much depends on the quarterback and whether Culpepper (if he's able to return from injury) or Green (if he comes to Miami) still have juice in their aging bodies. The defense looks solid, and with Brown at running back and the capable receivers, things look relatively promising.

all about the trenches

So true! Our O-line will be the most important element in our successfull season. Our Defense will be fine. Our return game will be fine. Our offense will be as good as our O-line can perform. So much weight is put into the QB position and, yes its very important but, all the QB must do is manage the game and avoid turnovers. If the O-line performs well the running game will be fine to exceptional and this will open the passing game. If the O-line pass blocks well, the QB will have time to make decisions and the game will, in a way, slow down for him to make the correct decisions. I am excited about our O-line this year. I think everything points to them doing well at the beginning of the year and really becoming, dare I say great?!?, towards the end. Well maybe not great but very good.

Agreed. The OL, DL, and QB will tell the tale of our season.

Every year there's a team that can Run the ball, and has a solid Defence that shows us you don't need a Marino/Elway/Montana type of QB to win it for you.The Ravens have been doin' it for years, last years Bears had a shot, you just need a QB that won't LOSE the game for you.

The Dolphins need to play as a team to win. The OL needs to block so the QB or RB can do wut they need to do. The WR need to get open so the QB doesnt have to wait forever and get the OL tired. The DL needs to break the line so our secondary doesnt get burned. Our secondary needs to cover so our DL has time to break the line.

Exactly! Although it will be nice if we get something better than that... It's been to long since we had a qb who could actually win it for us.

The 2002 Dolphins had the NFL's leading rusher and a far superior defense with 2 shutdown corners and 2 first round picks on the defensive line, in addition to a younger Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor. And they didn't even make the playoffs.

Correct. You must a QB that can take advantage of mismatches that are created by a great running game and a good defense. The QB needs to be a bit more than a caretaker.

True we said that damn Qb statement about not losing a game the whole time Fielder was Qb. Teams need to put as good a player at a psotion as possible instead of just trying to get by with a player.

I think there will be a huge difference this year just because of the coaching. Take a look at the difference in the player interviews between the past 2 pre-seasons and this year's. Cam is making a difference in how the Dolphins are working as a team.

Define "relatively"....

We are looking up at most other teams in the AFC East, West, South, not to mention NFC teams like Philly, Dallas, Chicago, Seattle.

Miami has a ways to go in talent development and acquisition.

Id be happy if we're 9-7 this year

Sometime's good thing's happen for a fan's team , because bad thing's happen to the other team's.

Or you could have a defense, like the 2000 Ravens' defense, which is actually good enough to win games on its own. Even in its heyday, the Miami defense put together by Jimmy Johnson wasn't that good (and needless to say, the 2007 Miami defense does not match up, talent wise, to the 2002 Miami defense).

Miami hasn't had a defense good enough to carry a team to the Super Bowl since the Killer Bs. However, if the 2002 team would have featured a better passing game, they could have done some real damage in the playoffs that year.
