The folks at Chargers.com breakdown the key matchups in tommorows game. Might be football speak, but it seems like the Chargers brass are not taking this game lightly. Here are some tid-bits:
Defensive Coordinator John Pagano spoke about how dangerous Tannehill is with his legs, not only when scrambling but to buy time in the pocket:
“He’s very mobile. He’s a guy that moves in the pocket very well. He’s not looking to take off and truly run. He can create with his feet as you see running the football, but it’s something that he wants to really extend and buy time in the pocket to look for the throws that they’ve got especially down field last week where they took two shots. So it gave them an opportunity to move around, slide around, so we’ve got to do a great job of putting a pressure on him and making sure he doesn’t get out of the pocket.”
Offensive Coordinator Frank Reich knows they will have their work cut out for them against this dangerous Dolphins defense:
“The Dolphins as we know have an excellent defense. They are playing well and play with a lot of energy. They have really good corners. I really respect these two corners. They play tough. And upfront those two edge pass rushers are as good of a combination there is in the league. We faced a good one last week, but I think these guys rival that last one. They really play well and play fast on the edge.”
Brandon Flowers chimes in on keeping up with Mike Wallace:
I’ve played this guy a few times in the past. He doesn’t have football speed, he has track speed. That’s a big difference. He’s a big play guy. He’s won more deep balls thrown to him now and he’s making it known. That’s going to be a tough task. Facing a guy like that is always going to be tough, but I’m (ready to) step up to the challenge.”
Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Spanos explains what makes Lamar Miller such an effective player:
“He has been showing that he is built (to be a lead back). He played collegiately right there at the University of Miami and actually is from Miami. So he is a local kid they’ve known a long time. A very athletic player. His 40-time was in the 4.3’s at the Combine coming out of college, so he’s very fast and athletic, but has some size to him. He is close to 220, 215 pounds, so he can run it inside. He’s now just an outside runner. He’s very good at catching the ball as well so a versatile player who has been productive for them.”
Corey Liuget on the Chargers inability to win in SoFla:
“Last year I probably had one of my worst games as a pro there. I look forward to getting back down there and playing these guys again in front of my home crowd…. I had a bad play on the field, and I feel that play cost us the game still in my opinion. In my own head I feel I cost us that game down in Miami, so I’m just looking forward to going back and playing these guys and coming out victorious this time.”
What are your keys to the game?
