How many times are free agents and coaches going to use us to drive up their contract with another team.

That's the ONLY reason Alex Smith is talking to us right now.

This has happened over and over again all under this administration. You think we'd figure it out by now.

Steven Ross is to busy with the Mitt Romney Super PAC to care about his silly NFL football team...

There was nothing wrong with talking to Smith and if it drives up his asking price for the 49'ers to pay tough.

To be honest, what's bad about this? We're driving up the prices for other teams and we're not actually signing these bums.

If we greatly overpay for a marginal player like Alex Smith, is that any better?

This. Even if we don't sign the player, we are hampering the other team's cap space.

Very well said, why should we let the Niners have him for cheap? If anything this makes us look brilliant

Like I just posted in another thread, the Seahawks ****ing flew to Denver and begged Peyton Manning to meet with them. He said 'no thanks.'

At least we're still relevant enough to get used. The Seahawks can't even manage that.

The PR sh*t shower continues guys. How many other potential free agents are going to come to town and visit when we DONT GET ANOTHER QB THAT WE'VE TALKED TO.

By offering the guy a contract and having him "leave us at the altar" again for his old team, the perception of the Dolphins sinks even deeper.

"Even Alex Smith didn't want a part of that organization"

I don't know about you guys, but when I tell people I'm a dolphins fan, 9 times out of 10 I hear:

"Oh, I'm sorry"

And im bleeping tired of it!

Really? What do we care what San Fran does? They're not in our division and their salary cap doesn't affect us. No one is going to say we're brilliant when Alex Smith leaves us looking completely bewildered and idiotic.

It's not football it's a business, he's going to get Tebow to get bum's on seat's............

What's the alternative
Just NOT talk to anyone???

What's wrong with driving up the prices? I never understood why we were maligned for that. It puts a damper on the other team's salary cap, and if they weren't going to come here anyway we didn't lose out anything?

I really hate defending the Dolphins' FO because I'm as tired of watching crappy football as everyone else here is, but come on. Talking to a player and forcing another team to pay more for his services is not a bad thing. I don't care how you slice it, it's not a bad thing. We lose nothing and someone else winds up with less money on the pot to bid on the same pool of free agents we're going after.
