Dolphins give Michael Thomas exclusive rights tender and 5 other players

solid player, would like to keep him

Good back up and special teamer but we really need to find another quality starter next to Jones at the safety position.

Neither him nor Aikens is that guy.

Need him back next year from a depth prospective and possibly even a starter at FS.

I guess its the right move . . . But does anybody know the tender amount difference between udfa/erfa and 2nd round tender? Just don't feel comfortable leaving him out here naked like that with no compensation to be had if a team throws him a higher than anticipated deal.

I'd like to have Thomas back as depth and specials teams. Good teammate and does a lot of volunteer work for Dolphins.

Well I thought an ERT could only sign with his current team?

EDIT: Sorry a ERFA can only sign with his team

The others tendered by #Dolphins: S Shamiel Gray, WR Matt Hazel, OL Ulrick John, CB Tyler Patmon, TE Jake Stoneburner.

Dolphins tendered exclusive-rights free agent defensive back Michael Thomas, started 13 games as safety and nickel led league in ST tackles

Thomas definitely gives us good depth, also would like to find a good starter at FS obtained. Good to see Stoneburner tendered, would like to see if he could develop well under Gase. Gary seemed like an interesting player in his limited play last year, can't hurt.

Thomas is not only the best special teams player we have but, is easily top 5 in the NFL. That alone makes him worth the offer, aside from what he brings in depth.

For two years in a row now, the Dolphins have used the exclusive rights tender to lock down Michael Thomas, all but ensuring that one of their best special teams players and most versatile defensive backs will again be on the team in 2016.
However, interest around the league in Thomas is strong, the Miami Herald has learned, so the Dolphins could be tempted to deal the 25-year-old if they get the right offer. It’s also not unusual for significant contributors on the exclusive rights tender to sign long-term contract extensions with the team that has their rights.

Back-up only he has no business being a starter...none!

Barry Jackson reports that the Dolphins will not tender restricted free agent TE Brandon Williams.
