Dolphins rookie linebacker Jordan Tripp spent time at middle linebacker in Friday's practice, which could mean the team is at least willing to take a look at Tripp shaking things up among the veteran linebacking corps.
Tripp, the fifth-round pick from Montana who signed with the Dolphins on Friday, started at weakside linebacker for the Grizzlies in his junior and senior seasons. But the conventional thinking says the Dolphins might be better served finding a new middle linebacker and shifting veteran Dannell Ellerbe from the middle to the outside, which is where he had his most success for Baltimore.
Tripp, an athletic type who runs well from sideline to sideline, said he's up for the challenge.
"There is a bigger learning curve due to the complexity of defenses, especially learning a new language," Tripp said. "I'm learning the whole concept instead of just learning one position. That will allow me to help the team more.
