The Senior Bowl is an important part of the evaluation process for NFL general managers and scouts. It’s the only time teams get to watch top draft prospects practice on a daily basis, which is a simulation of the grind college players will face at the next level. It’s also a chance to personnel types to watch top college players face off against one another in a game and practice situation.

There is a good chance Miami’s next general manager is currently in Mobile working for another organization. But the Dolphins would have been smarter to make their decision before the Senior Bowl so the new GM and coaching staff could all be on the same page. There certainly will be a longer transition period in Miami.

The latest I’m hearing is Cleveland Browns assistant general manager Ray Farmer and former Denver Broncos general manager are two of the favorites at this stage. But it remains to be seen if Miami will interview more candidates in the coming days and weeks.

Miami parted ways with former general manager Jeff Ireland after six seasons in charge. The Dolphins completed five consecutive non-winning seasons under Ireland in 2013.

It's going to be Gaine, so it won't much matter since he's already there.

Taking too long but Tampa is fine without a new gm? These media fools all follow the same beat.

The Dolphins will be just fine.

I'm all for taking your time and getting the right guy but this is starting to get a little ridiculous

Better hope to God you're wrong.

I honestly don't think he's even being considered. IMO Ross gave him an interview as a professional courtesy.

Dude I hope I'm wrong too. Now, I actually think the opposite of the courtesy interview. I think it was going to be him all along. This whole interview process is info gathering/ idea collecting. Couldn't rush the Gaine hire as fans wouldn't accept it. Now if Gaine is picked, it looks as if he was the best candidate who trumped all. This process is just to boost our confidence in him.

I like a good conspiracy tho, I must admit!

I don't follow the whole GM and coaches have to be "on the same page" thing.
It's not like everyone won't know who was the best DB, WR or Tackle at Senior Bowl week. They will all be watching the same thing.
Also, if I'm a guy that interviewed for the Dolphins GM position, I'm going to keep an extra eye on what I believe they need

Interviewing 100 guys for the job just seems a little amateurish to me. I know the most important thing is to get the right guy, but it just seems like Ross is going into this blind and without a plan. Which he didn't because he was actually going to keep Ireland. Its just the way things are run around here, I shouldn't expect anything more.

This is the way I look at it. I'd rather make sure we get the right guy than rush and end up with another Ireland

Agreed. I would rather hire a GM next week that can build a championship team than hire one this week that will be fired in a few years. This is a long term investment that shouldn't be impacted by one Senior Bowl.

I'm more concerned that whomever is GM will still have the same (apparently) flawed organizational scouts in place.
