According to one of the players, on the flight back from Pittsburgh a veteran player - speaking within earshot of Saban - asked whether Schulters was still available.

The problem frustrated some veteran defenders, who grumbled amongst themselves on the quiet plane ride back from Pittsburgh, according to two sources.

Not good to have players complaining already. Hopefully we get this secondary together.

If true this isn't good. Who or what is the source for this information?

Hmmmmmm maybe they think thats whats best. Can't blame someone for an opinion

i can see perhaps a comment on a proven veteran back there... But its hard think the team is pulling the panic button. We almost won that game thursday remember?
when i watched it again we were fine until the 4th quarter... sure a bad play here or there... Why arent people talking about how Parker made our Dline and the almighty Thomas completely whiff a few times.... Its a team loss.. Our Blitz packages were neutralized. I believe we made mistakes firstly.. and outcoached secondly.

no shame in being in the lead vs the champs with 7 minutes left to play. we simply got beat down the stretch, 1 of 2 plays go differently and we could win.

schulters did look like he knew his place here last year... never really saw him out of position and he seemed like a good fit, i was shocked when we dropped him to begin with

I always wonder when writers start quoting sources without specifics. Was someone serious in their statement or was it a joke to try to lighten the mood?
It would be a very bad sign if players start questioning each other this early after just one regular season game.

in a way its good that the team is taking this loss so hard, it means they are serious about winning and they feel like they can win every game which they play which is very good...i would love to bring shulters back, he was our best player in the secondary last year and hes still available so i dont see why not try to talk to his agent and get him back to help the team out

still a FA as of now

Did any other team try to sign Shulters? If he didn't have any other offers why didn't he sign back with the Dolphins?

I don't understand the love affair with Lance Schulters. He was a pro-bowl player five years ago. The guy is a gambler and will make plays, but since age has caught up with him and his speed has diminished, he gives up a lot of big plays too (remember the Jets game last year?).

The vets are definitely entitled to their opinions, but I think mentioning it around Saban the way it was described was pretty unprofessional because it comes off as second guessing the head coach.

I wouldn't mind it if we signed him, but I don't think it would really help a lot. What good is another slower (but smart) safety to the secondary if the d-line and linebackers can't get to the QB? I think whoever said that needs to take a good look in the mirror. Not very many players on the defense can stand up and say, "I played a really good game on Thursday".

Travares Tillman is actually the one who made the most mistakes on Thursday. He was involved, or rather uninvolved, in all three of the TD receptions. That's always been the knock on him -- he's an excellent athlete but he will struggle in coverage. To paraphrase Dick Vermiel, it's time for Jason Allen to "take off the diapers" and earn a starting spot in the secondary. Allen really needs to start showing some progress and not dumb penalties when he has playing time.
