Dolphins guarantee 3 million of Wakes salary

I think it guarantees he'll be here in 18 unless he's traded. Also keeps the door open for a longer-term because wake has said many times he wants to retire a dolphin and have his name up in the stadium. Real nice that he's staying.
 
A part of me wants him to never leave the Dolphins, another part wants him to experience a winning playoff team. I hope our Phins can help him experience the spoils just once (the same wish I had for Marino, Zach, and Taylor)

Ya, It is just how his contract was set up. It was activated automatically. Nobody made a decision, other than not cutting him before the guarantee kicked in.
 
99% sure this is just part of his existing contract? its happening with players across the league

Well given our purge of late, I'm ecstatic to see that they're keeping Wake! ... and Hayes too honestly! But since I'm confident it was Hayes who orchestrated the Quinn deal, we always knew he was coming back. ;D
