As he heads into his second season with the Dolphins, Gase now wants to do whatever he can to see more of Pouncey in the regular season, even if it means seeing him less outside of game days.
Put another way, Gase is planning on managing Pouncey’s practice time to maximize his game time. Pouncey’s five games came in the middle of the season and the Dolphins won four of them. Perhaps not coincidentally, two of
Jay Ajayi’s three 200-yard rushing performances came with Pouncey in the lineup and he had another 100-yard game against the Jets with Pouncey in front of him.
So, yes, having Pouncey in the lineup clearly makes a difference.
The Dolphins went 5-2 down the stretch with Pouncey out of the lineup and
Anthony Steen and
Kraig Urbik starting at center in his place, but Gase still wants Pouncey as much as he can have him in 2017.
