Following a 41-17 blowout loss to the Vikings on Sunday, the Miami Dolphins fell to 7-7 and are now on the outside looking in of the AFC playoff picture.

It just so happens that a .500 record has been the summary of the Dolphins franchise for the last eight-plus seasons.

In fact, we dug up a tweet that proves the Fins mediocrity. Over their last 38 (19-19), 46 (23-23), 84 (42-42) and 132 (66-66) games, Miami's record has fallen at .500.

The Miami Dolphins are
7-7 thie season
19-19 Their last 38 Games
23-23 Their last 46 Games
42-42 Their last 84 Games
And 66-66 Their last 132 Games
Every team goes through ups and downs but the Dolphins have been in a special torture of .500 football for a long time pic.twitter.com/Dui4LjFH37

Not good enough to make the playoffs, not bad enough to land a high draft pick. I'd rather win as much as possible, because
I hate the feeling of being a cellar dweller during the year.

66-66 over 132 games. Insane how inept this franchise has been for these 132 games and still manages .500 on the field.

Just goes to show you what is possible with a front office and coaching staff that has a clue. Which we don’t have.

I usually try to keep the perspective that it's usually not as bad as it seems or as good as it seems, but the Dolphins absolutely have gone to another level with that mentality.

A decade of mediocrity and if we're being honest it's probably more like 15 years.

We haven't been legitimately good since the Wannstedt years. Four consecutive season of at least +50 point differential from 2000 to 2003.

Never at that level since. Rarely a positive differential. Even our best seasons recordwise like 2008 and 2016 were basically even in terms of points. In fact, if you add those two seasons together we were 21-11 but only +11 net points.

The remarkable aspect is that the Dolphins seldom have a truly unlucky season. Not recently anyway. The 2011 team had positive net points despite a 6-10 record. After the 0-7 start we won many games by double digits and played very tight at New England. I was enthused exiting that season.

But beginning in 2012 there hasn't been much of anything except an unusually favorable bottom line. Only 2014 had positive net points and that was barely, at +15. Overall since 2012 we have been outscored by an incredible 319 points in the regular season, yet the won/loss record is not terrible at 52-58.

If you are being outscored by nearly 3 points per game it should be a lot worse than that.

Gase has a .500 regular season record despite being outscored by 208 points in 46 games. That should be next to impossible. It is never fully accepted around here how bizarre our good fortune and distribution have been in recent years. I don't have a data base to look stuff like this up, but I'd be surprised if any coach in NFL history has managed .500 or above after that many games while being outscored to such dependability.

Saw a very similar tweet about the Redskins a few weeks ago.

Well by all means let's keep doing the same thing. Keep everyone. This makes me a true fan. Content with mediocrity.

They are predictable...All you have to do is throw away the urge to get excited for a new season and start following your head...not your hopes. You will very soon realize this team is going to finish near .500

The really sad thing about that? It does not matter if they start 8-0 , 0-8 ....or anywhere in-between during the season they will be either 8 -8 at the finish line or a game either side of that. Im to the point I dont blame the Franchise...I blame the NFL for allowing them to be this mediocre for so long. IMO The NFL should force ownership change if they current owner cannot field a decent product within a certain time frame and believe me...Ross has exceeded his time in Miami.

When was the last time the Dolphins had a true rebuild of the team? Parcells maybe?

Not that I want to be there but I’m sure you can find a lot of teams with pretty similar results.
