In one symbolic gesture, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano told Vontae Davis and Sean Smith that they're ready to be treated like trusted veterans.

At the start of training camp, Sparano gave the third-year cornerbacks their own hotel rooms instead of making them shack up together.

"I miss having him around, but I do love the king-sized bed," Davis said of Smith. "I think we've come a long way."
The Dolphins sure hope so. They made Davis and Smith the centerpieces of their 2009 draft – taking Davis in the first round and Smith in the second – and are counting on both players to start 16 games next to each other for the first time in their careers.

So far, so good. Neither Smith nor Davis has allowed a reception through two pre-season games, and teammates and coaches raved about their maturity and professional approach throughout camp.

"They have more focus – I can see it every day at practice," said third cornerback Benny Sapp, a seven-year veteran. "I talk to them about their focus and what we have to do for the season, and when I do talk to them, they're real attuned to what's going on. They're buying in, on and off the field."

The Dolphins better hope so. Three of their first four games in 2011 come against some of the best passers in the NFL – Tom Brady, Matt Schaub and Philip Rivers.

"It's going to test us early, let us know if we prepared right for the season," Smith said. "If anything, I like it."

Is this true? I could have swore I saw Smith give up a couple in the last game alone but anyway... the future certaintly seems bright for these two in Miami.

looking forward to more takeaways from the secondary than we've seen in 10 years...... whats nice is that the 3 WRs that always hurt us the most are gone too!!!!
(Randy Moss,Lee Evans,Braylon Edwards)

What are we going to do when thier contracts are up is what im worried about. Think we can keep both? Its gonna be tough.
