Hugo, with the high point value of the #1 pick on this obsolete value chart that everyone puts so much store on and the escalating expense of just getting the pick signed, I feel it is highly unlikely that we'll be able to get out of the 1st pick. The only way would to accept an offer of "less than equal value" according to the above mentioned value chart. Unless and until that has been changed and a cap is put on rookie signings, it will be next to impossible for the #1 to be traded!
 
the money value of the #1 pick is getting out of hand. I think the money value should stay at what J. Russell got.
 
Highly doubtful, just doesn't happen very often.
 
The NFL commissioner really needs to step in and do something about putting a monetary cap value on first round picks. It's ridiculous!
I also think Ireland needs to scrap the over-rated draft value chart and be willing to trade something reasonable to get the extra picks they need and not sink all that cap space into a #1 pick gamble.
 
I'd be willin' to take less in the #1 category and try to pick up #2's as value picks, for less is signing $, as there is no clear cut #1 franchise player. It truly is the question of the year, and the #1 problem for this new administration. I would like to keep a pick in the top 8 or so and accumulate #'s as we need ssoooo much, and filling a few key positions may be an adequate band-aid to make us very competative, although that alone won't be enough to pass the Pats.
 
It's not out of the question. We're sitting here wondering if we're going to be able to unload the first overall pick while we haven't even watched the Super Bowl yet. Let things pan out in the offseason before you start saying that we're stuck with the first overall. We have a perfect example in Atlanta of what can happen to a team during the offseason. That team fell apart with all of Mike Vick's shananagans. There are plenty of teams that have needs that can be addressed in the draft. Atlanta needs a QB, Detroit doesn't have a consistent running game, Denver desperately needs a d-line, etc. We don't even know what FAs are going to be re-signed or released. I personally think we have a decent shot at unloading the first overall because I think Parcells and Ireland are going to make other teams squirm at the possibility of the Fins taking someone that they want. Either that, or we're going to lower the price on the pick. "We're open to all offers," remember, guys?

Similar to what they do in hockey... It really works well..., number one everyone is in camp... And the fans want to see their draft picks
 
I say yes!

Last night on the NFL Network they reported that the Bengals, Seahawks, Vikings, Ravens, Cardinals, Cowboys, 49ers, and Rams have shown interest in trading with Miami to acquire the #1 over all pick. :up:
 
I think we can trade the pick for sure...is a matter of what we'd get in return. I doubt anyway that we'll get great value for it.....if we can stay in the top 8 and get a 2nd and a couple of picks in the 2009 then I'd jump at the chance.

But here are the two options I really see.

Option 1 you do Trade down, but because of the money associated with the 1st overall and the point value to get there You will not get value.

Option 2 if you do hold out for value than I do not think you move out of the spot.



The problem you have here is there is really NO TRUE 1st overall player out there.
 
Mel Kiper was on Mike and Mike this morning, and when asked who Miami would take if they don't go with Dorsey, and he said that it would probably be Chris Long

and that's exactly our Delima... BP/Ireland know this as well, and unfortunatly I think they take less value for the pick. I'd actually like to see them collect some 2nd rounders in this draft, if not a 1st rounder in the 09' draft, which also looks to be a good draft with Larinitis (sp) Jenkins, Mauluga (sp) and Oher going back for there senior year.

This draft is deep with star talent just not deep with Franchise talent. If there was a Manning, Palmer, or even a J Russell type player then we'de might be able to get value.
