I know this is a crazy idea, but hear me out. You could actually let him throw a single pass in the very first minicamp before stating he has set the franchise back 5 years. I know it's a crazy idea, but it might be wise to let the guy actually perform his new job before judging his value to the team...
Still don't get how one pick sets any team back so many years......maybe explain fully. (On second thought don't)

I'm hoping you're right.... but usually when a team has recently hired a new coach, is drafting in the top 10, and looking for a franchise QB, it means that the team is currently not doing things right at all.
Haven't we spent much of the past decade getting New coaches and new Quarterbacks? How's that worked for us so far?
Again, I hope this is us turning the corner, but forgive me if I'm not beaming with optimism or confidence at this juncture.
I stand corrected. Forgot about Norton, so they have hit big time on 2 of their previous 3 first round quarterbacks. I was just throwing out that interesting stat, not saying Tannehill will live up to those expectations.

Whether you wanted Tannehill or not he's our guy so let's get behind him and the new coach (and OC) who wanted him.
Overreach ? Maybe but it's over and we should all support the coachs decision. We wanted change and got it. At least let's play a few games before we start shooting down every decision they make.
This was Philbin's decision. He's the one that will be judged by it. He trust Sherman.

Twice in the past eight drafts, this team has made worse top-ten picks: Ted Ginn and Ronnie Brown (and one of those was the #2 overall pick). If those two picks didn't destroy the franchise, this one sure as hell won't. Not to mention that the Tanneyhill pick has a much greater upside than either of those other two.
Yikes. I've noticed that younger Dolphin fans don't seem to know we drafted Rick Norton. There was a thread in the Draft Forum last week asking if any team had drafted a quarterback in the first round two years in a row. I anticipated Norton/Griese in the first reply but the thread was just sitting there with 10 or 12 replies but no mention of our group until I filled it in.

Since Ireland has been here we have not completely missed on a 1st rounder. Hopefully this streak continues. I like the pick and am excited for our future.

Are you really comparing this to the Ted Ginn situation?
I'm comparing two overrated players, so yeah.
If the same person was making the picks all the time such a stat would be worthwhile. To say Miami has never missed on a first round QB is insignificant regardless of the stat. Has Ireland ever missed a better stat for example. That's what we are dealing with. Hopefully Ireland can win us all over with this pick.

I think it's a little harsh to lump Ronnie Brown in with Ted Ginn. While he didn't pan out as well as we had hoped, he had some pretty good seasons and made a Pro Bowl. The biggest problem with him is he kept getting injured. He was tearing it up in 2007 for a terrible Dolphins team when he got injured.....who knows what his stats would have looked like if he had played the whole season.
Ginn, on the other hand, wasn't good for much other than returning kicks.....couldn't run routes and would routinely drop passes in crunch time. Funny thing is, a lot of people wanted Brady Quinn in that spot for the Dolphins, and he's been even worse than Ginn.
