DAVIE - There's a Miami Dolphins leadership group that meets every week inside Joe Philbin's offense to discusses player issues, and to receive the message for the week from the coaches.
Problem is we don't know exactly who is on the leadership group, or exactly how they got on it.
Welcome to the 2014 Miami Dolphins, which is using "Stronger Together" as the credo for the season.
The Dolphins hope to have a more united team compared to last year's group, which endured a highly publicized bullying scandal that centered on the troublesome relationship between Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito, two offensive linemen on the 2013 team.
Philbin took a ton of national heat and criticism for letting the players elect Incognito to last year's six member leadership council, and it appears he's altered his approach somewhat.
There's no longer a leadership council. There's a leadership group, which players say features one member representing each of the team's units. How those members have been selected is unknown, and whether their membership is consistent is unclear.
The Sun-Sentinel can confirm that Ryan Tannehill, Cameron Wake, Mike Wallace, Randy Starks, Brent Grimes and Koa Misi are members of the new leadership group.
“We have a different group. It’s not something we are necessarily going to reveal to everybody," Philbin said. "Different members are on it this year, but we’ve been communicating regularly throughout the offseason, through training camp, the preseason, and we’ll continue to do so.”
