If given an average workload for a 13-game starter (which he is), Miller would be thought of as a Pro Bowl running back. Perhaps even All-Pro. But the Dolphins -- whether driven by doubts about Miller's durability or good-old fashioned coaching incompetence -- refuse to test Miller's ceiling.
Monday night's game against the Giants was the low point. Miller was housing New York's defense in the first half, accumulating 69 yards and two touchdowns on his first seven carries. A beautiful bit of rushing on his second score should have been a siren blast to the Dolphins that the offense should run through Miller for the duration of the evening.
"Incredible stop-and-start quickness," ESPN's Jon Gruden gushed over Miller's lateral agility during replays of his dance through the hole.
This could have been Lamar Miller's coming out party. Instead, Miller disappeared from the Dolphins' game plan after his star turn. He had just six more carries over the final two and a half quarters and wasn't targeted in the passing game. Ryan Tannehill, meanwhile, threw 41 passes and averaged 5.8 yards per attempt in a 31-24 loss.
Miller had his ankle taped on the sideline during the game, but told reporters he was not injured and wasn't sure why he didn't have a bigger role in the second half. It certainly sounds like his absence was as inexplicable as it seems.

Next week, the Dolphins will face the Chargers, who have one of the worst run defenses in football. The game plan should revolve around Miller, who just might be Miami's best offensive player. Dolphins fans have the right to doubt that's how it will actually play out.

Run, Lamar. Run straight to a team that will appreciate your talents.

"Tannehill can't audible or it slows his play down too much"
"Lamar Miller can't be a bellcow back for even one full game"
"Rishard Matthews isn't starter material"
"Dallas Thomas is a good player"
"We don't need to draft an O-lineman high"
"Jamar Taylor is prepared to step up and be the starting CB for this team"
"Matt Moore is worth every penny"
"Devante Parker needs some more time learning before he contributes"
"Let's toss Ajayi on IR...Damien Williams will tide us over."

What do all of these things have in common? No, it's not that they were all Dolphins blunders (although they were). It's that the majority of fans had big problems believing them when they were said, and time proved the fans right. There is a MAJOR, MAJOR talent evaluation issue on this team.

Dan Campbell said Tuesday that running back Lamar Miller only had one carry in the fourth quarter of Monday’s 31-24 loss to the New York Giants because of an ankle injury.

That contradicts Miller, who said after the game his right ankle was fine.

“This is the first that I’ve heard of, that he was OK to go in the second (half),” Campbell said. “If that’s what he told you guys…I knew that he wasn’t in there for a spell because I saw him limp off the field.

“So at that point I was just trying to manage the game.”

Miller, who ended with 12 carries for 89 yards and two touchdowns, left the game after his two-yard carry in the fourth quarter. He limped off the field and sat on the trainer’s table on the sideline where his right ankle got medical attention. Miller didn't get another carry
Campbell said it was first because of Miller’s injury, and then because of the game situation.

“He just had the ankle for a while,” Campbell said of Miller. “And then we got to the point we felt like we had to throw it a little bit more. The runs that we had, when you look at what we did in the second half, we ran really good in the first half, and we still busted a couple.

“But we come out and we get a one-yard gain and now it’s second and nine. We get a holding, we get a false start, we come out and run it for one. You know, I said it, there again, when you’re not efficient on first or second down when you run the ball you put yourself in a bind. You want to run it on second and 10 and now all of a sudden it’s third and 10, and that’s a problem.”

Looks like the Dolphins don't want to resign Miller. They will low ball him and say he wanted to test free agency. Why else would you not give him the ball. Looks like tannenbums call from upstairs. Can't stand these Parcells guys. They will omit all the talent. My take

And he'll go to the Jets, Bills or worse the Pats and will hurt us for years to come.

He is a South Florida boy through and though and probably would love to play his entire career down here. He is a good teammate, quiet, never hear of a problem and a darn good running back. I always been a huge fan of his even when this board was sour on him.
I would think that he'd forgo a few million just to stay here. The Dolphins better not **** this up. But then again if you have an entire Jets organization (including head Jets cheerleader Ross) running the Dolphins we might as well just hand him over to the Jets.

I'm pretty confident their abandoning of the running game has nothing to do with not wanting to resign Miller and everything to do with poor coaching, play calling and at times panic in the game situation.

We saw them abandon a hot Miller in the Dallas game and we lost
We saw them stick with a hot Miller in the Ravens game and we won
We saw them abandon a hot Miller in the Giants game and we lost

Rinse and repeat....

Why? When there is clearly a stat that says you give the ball to Miller a certain amount of times , we win. C'mon with the Dolphins coaches are too dumb to figure it out excuse. Dan Campbell came in saying he was going to run the ball. Why isn't he? Refute that.

Agreed, I think it's less to do with trust/distrust of Miller, and more just misunderstanding how to keep momentum in general. It always seems to happen when the game get's tough -- the coaches seem to get this idea that Tannehill throwing it 3 downs in a row, especially to Landry, will generate 1st downs under the defense's nose, like it's foolproof and he's going to shed 3 tackles. At the rate that it works, you might as well run Miller against a stacked box.

The Dolphins will let Miller go and he will go elsewhere to become a top 5 RB in the league. The Dolphins will run Ajayi into the ground because they will have scrubs like Damien Williams behind him. One day the Dolphins will be a good organization again but it doesn't look like that will be any time soon.

based on production, Miller is the best player under contract.

Miller is a damn good RB out of the backfield...I'm calling BS on the throwing late theory.

I don't know if I have ever hated this team more than this moment.

Wtf The game plan to beat the Giants was so fricken easy....Stop Beckham and run the ball all day long. Not leave Beckham running wild and have Tannehide throw all day...**** Ross and Tannenbum.

To clarify, are you saying that the Dolphins would rather risk losing games by not using Lamar Miller so they can keep his stats low to try to resign him for less next year?
