King also wrote the Dolphins are not in negotiations with any other player despite reports they have been talking with Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston. ESPN also reported late last week the Dolphins and Gholston hadn’t met.
However, King noted an NFL front-office source who’s close to Parcells believes Gholston is next on the Dolphins’ wish list after Long.

There is speculatin Gholston could be next, but I could also see a guy like Chris Long being next

Despite the reports, i still think Chris is our guy...maybe im wrong but i get the feeling he is leveraging Jake & Gholston in order to get Chris to sign a reasonable contract.

Hey Finatic, is that picture of Long Photoshopped? I meant to ask you that a while ago because it just doesn't seem real. If it is, WOW!

Koolaid...

So, will we DRINK THE KOOLAID and believe that Parcells is ONLY negotiating with LONG? Based on the word of old pal PETER KING?

I'll tell you this, if JAKE LONG is INDEED our first round pick, I'll be shocked! That'll mean that Parcells operated with no subterfuge or hidden agendas, just out in the open.

That'll be refreshing...

If however, LONG is NOT our choice then I certainly won't be SURPRISED. Parcells is not PARTICULARLY known for his HONESTY during the draft process.

GO PHINS!!

You know I really want Jake, but there is something real fishy going on and it smells like Tuna. Im serioslu hoping for Jake, but in the back of my mind I think we will end up with Chris

Despite all these mixed reports, you have to admit that having the #1 pick has been fun so far. I am enjoying all of these rumors/non-rumors/smokescreens.

The guy rushing him is CB Adam Shada, calm down. Of course he looks big compared to a corner.

BTW, I guess we are just inching closer to Vernon Gholston becoming a 'Phin!

:woot:

You goota love all the news, especially since there is a non right now. This is the best time of the year, especially for us Dolphin fans his year.

No, its not. Long is an impressive monster. The Gholston fans will tell you otherwise, but Gholston is pretty sick too.

I think Peter King is just guessing. I doubt he would know whether or not Jake Long has been negotiating a deal or not. He already could have signed a deal with us. I am sure there are no reporters getting any access to these guys or their agents when negotiations are underway.

If he would be guessing, it would have been a rumor. King knows what he is talking about. Now Miami could be negotiating with Chris Long as well and that might not be public.

Actually, I think that's an old photo from 2005 with OLB Chad Greenway blitzing. Either way, the young Big Jake does look like a friggin' giant.

i think Chris long should be our choise over all the players and if he doesnt agree with terms we should go with Jake long

You mean you "hope" Chris Long is next.

The Jake Long negotiations could mean a few things. (in order of probability)

1) They want Jake Long

2) They know that the Rams, picking #2, covet Jake Long and this is a ploy to get them to give up something to move up one spot.

3) They're starting with Long because they want to base the contract for the #1 pick off of the Joe Thomas deal from last year. They can say something like "you don't grade out as well as he did, but since it's a year later and the cap is higher, we're willing to pay you 5% more in guarantees than Joe Thomas got.

If they get Long to agree to the terms, then they can go to the guy they really want (be it Chris Long, Gholston, whoever) and say "sign this or else we're drafting Jake Long"

Contrary to what alot of posters on this board think, taking Jake Long with the #1 pick isn't a "reach".

Scouts Inc grades of the top 6 prospects in this draft.
1. Darren McFadden RB Arkansas 98
2. Chris Long DE Virginia 98
3. Jake Long OT Michigan 98
4. Glenn Dorsey DT LSU 98
5. Matt Ryan QB Boston Coll. 98
6. Sedrick Ellis DT USC 97

The grades of the top 5 guys are identical....and Jake Long fills the biggest need for us, so the pick makes sense.
The only thing that makes more sense would be a trade that netted us extra picks, because we have so many needs.
