Dolphins have the 8th OVR ALL OFFENSE!!

I don't think we have had an offense that averages over 320 total yards a game. That is what the Dolphins have been doing all season long.

nice stat who would have thought in the beginning of the season, finally a reliable offense

Second best in turnover margin (+8)
Near the top in 4th down conversion %
Almost the best in penalties

However...

Near the bottom on 3rd down conversion %

I'll take these stats any day

Yeah thats a great thing now if we could only open the playbook on 1st and 2nd so we never face something more than a 3rd and 4 cause we are sweet at 3rd and 4 or less.

i think the key to our improvement has been finding a good qb and second is the line protecting him.

Where you rank in yards doesn't matter. Points matter. We are only 20th in points. That probably has a lot to do with not being able to convert on 3rd down.

You start to convert on 3rd down, you see those points go up, you see some more wins. If you insert 2 x 3rd down conversions where we didn't convert and we are 6-2 instead of 5-4.

TO percentage and penalties are fantastic keep up the good work.

Not to rain on the parade, I am happy we are 8th in total offense, but unfortunately we are 20th in scoring offense... But as long as our defense keeps teams out of the endzone, scoring offense doesnt really matter as much

I think that I read that the Jets while 14th in yards are 1st in the AFC (or was it in the NFL) in points. Where can you find that stat?

JMarino hit the nail on the head - yeah, it's great we're racking up the 8th most yards per game, but it doesn't matter til that translates into points. You could have the first-ranked offense by this measure if you marched down the length of the field each time only to turn the ball over in the red zone every time. Getting stopped on 3rd down is a similar thing.

While we are near the bottom on 3ed down conversions, we are near the top on % of making 1st downs (4th - I think). The reason is we get a lot of them on 1st and 2nd and 4th downs. Before the Seattle game I read somewhere that we led the league 2nd down efficiency (whatever that means). We don't score a lot because we have a lot of time consuming drives. We are not a quick strike offense. We do not have great WRs. Chad's arm is adequate but not super strong. He still threw one of the prettiest passes I've seen to Ginn on the flea-flicker. It was a 39 yard TD thrown 7 yards into the endzone from 9 yards behind the line of scrimage (about 55 yards in the air) that was perfectly placed between two defenders and hit Ginn in the hands in stride. A great catch by Ginn too!
His passes have touch, are catchable, and usually very accurate. The calls for an untested QB (Henne) to take over on 3rd and long for Chad seem unnecessary. He definately can complete 10-20 yard passes as well as anyone in the league when the line gives him time to throw. Our OL seems to get beat a lot on both run and pass plays.
