With eight days left until the Dolphins report to training camp, three of their eight 2009 draft picks remain unsigned.

Should Dolfans be worried?

Not as worried as fans of the Buffalo Bills, who have only three picks under contract and will be the first NFL team to open full-squad workouts when they take the field Saturday in Rochester, N.Y. And according to one agent, it could be some time before the Bills come to terms with their top choice, defensive end Aaron Maybin.
In comparison, the Dolphins are in great shape, said agent David Canter, who announced Thursday that one of his clients, second-round cornerback Sean Smith, had agreed to terms with Miami.
"The Dolphins are one of the more aggressive teams about getting deals done," Canter said.
The Dolphins' lone holdout last year was second-round quarterback Chad Henne, who missed one workout.
Indications are that second-round quarterback Pat White and sixth-round safety Chris Clemons will sign well in advance of the reporting date. The status of first-round cornerback Vontae Davis likely will depend on how quickly the players taken just before and after him sign, but one league source said he expects a flurry of agreements soon because most camps open next week.

Thanks for the info
Good to hear

We're fine. All you have to do is look at the rest of the NFL. We are right in line of better than most teams. I still only know of two teams that have thier first rounder in camp. Supposedly, the Browns are close with Mack, but still, only two.

anybody know what Sean's deal is? how many years and how much money?

I pulled the stat off the website and posted it in the thread. It was 4 years $2.72mil and $900k signing bonus.

I heard on Sirius radio today some concern that the Dolphins paid Sean Smith a 12% premium on what the 61st pick selected last year received. While this doesn't sound much, all of the agents would be well aware of these matters and they will be pushing team management to replicate this sort of percentage elsewhere.

It's not rare for a team to pay more when they get what is perceived to be a value pick - as the Smith pick is. Also, the pay for CB is higher than most positions. Pick 61 last year was a TE - not the position of greatest pay.

All i can say is I hope Vontae signs soon.

I think he may be the only one that misses any of camp. I doubt he misses much but I wouldn't be surprised to see him miss a few days.

The good side of drafting two players at the same position is that with the other player being signed it puts tremendous pressure on the other to be in camp or get so far behind that he will lose any chance at catching up. Expecially at the CB position where there is a VERY strong likelyhood that the RCB position will be won by one of the two rookies.

If Davis does hold out for even a few days it would kill him to see Smith out there as the starting RCB and getting press and time with the team and coaches while he is sitting in a hotel room watching the clock and hearing updates. He would be ready to fire his agent if a deal wasn't done pronto.
