RealFootball365: "With Mularkey demoted, Fins' offense should balance out"
http://www.realfootball365.com/nfl/...ins-mularkeydemoted-offensebalance310707.html

Get this: Miami threw the ball 591 times in 2006. Only Green Bay, Detroit and St. Louis had more attempts. By comparison, the Dolphins only ran the ball 402 times. Only three teams ran the ball less: Oakland, Cleveland and Detroit.
Florida Today: "Martin has competitive spirit"
http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070731/SPORTS/707310326/1002/SPORTS

"We've been in pads two days and I've been impressed with his run blocking," Mularkey said. "Again, that's two days. But he's listening to what we're telling him to do -- techniques, how to finish plays. At least he's trying. Whether he does it right or wrong, at least I can watch that (he's trying).

"He's been very good. Let's see what happens when we get in a preseason game if that carries over. Then you've got a guy who can run, can catch and has a chance to be a good point blocker for you, which is rare."
Florida Today: "Roth denies calling Saban 'a jerk'"
http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070731/SPORTS/707310319/1002/SPORTS

"I never said that," Roth said. "I think they blew that out of context."

In a July 26 article appearing in the Iowa City Press-Citizen, the former Iowa Hawkeyes star talked about being happy with new Dolphins coach Cam Cameron while taking a shot at his former coach.
USA TODAY: "Taylor, reigning top defender, shoots to repeat"
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/dolphins/2007-07-30-jason-taylor_N.htm

"First of all, you've got everybody shooting for you," Taylor said Sunday. "Everybody's going to nitpick at everything, and if you don't have the same level of success that you had the previous year  or in the previous incident  then people are going to say, 'You're not the same, his play has dropped.'

"When you set that standard at a certain level, sometimes it's tough to reach back up there and get that in some peoples' eyes. My expectations are always higher than everybody else's, so it doesn't matter. I had a decent year and won an award. But I could sit here and give you a half-hour worth of stuff I didn't do very well last year that ticked me off all offseason."
USA TODAY: "Dolphins' offensive line shifting ways under Cameron"
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/2007-07-30-1484802896_x.htm

Three days into training camp, the Dolphins are experimenting with different combinations, searching for the best lineup.

"We're a long way from, in terms of our offensive line, making any decisions on who starters will be and what the starting unit will be," Cameron said. "There will be some different combinations working through throughout training camp. Every day is an evaluation process."
Miami Herald: "Offensive-minded, for a change"
http://www.miamiherald.com/1190/story/187185.html

Cam Cameron has coached wide receivers, quarterbacks and has been an offensive coordinator practically all his adult life. So it should come as little surprise that as the Dolphins coach his eyes still focus more on the offense than defense.

After any given practice, Cameron knows how many turnovers his offense yielded, he knows how many penalties it suffered. Basically he knows exactly where the unit struggled or succeeded.
Miami Herald: "Injury may put Daniels in starting position"
http://www.miamiherald.com/588/story/187692.html

Daniels injured his ankle last year and missed the entire preseason and the first two regular-season games after starting 14 games in 2005. Goodman started 14 of 15 games last season before injuring his shoulder against the New York Jets on Christmas night.

Now the roles are reversed.
Miami Herald: "Battle line is drawn for Fins' Shelton"
http://www.miamiherald.com/616/story/187688.html

''I'm in my ninth camp, so I've seen stuff like this all the time,'' Shelton said Monday. "Toward the end of camp, the five best linemen will be in there. And no matter what team I've been on, I've always been one of the five best linemen.''
Miami Herald: "Brown grinding out camp"
http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/football/story/187689.html

Now all he has to be is this team's Tomlinson?

''For my name and his name to be in the same sentence is motivation for me,'' Brown said. "I know my workload is going to be turned up and that expectations are going to be pretty high. I am ready to carry the load.''

All that is easy to say. But Brown's actions have impressed, too.

His chest seems more defined, and he looks fitter after his most strenuous offseason. He was close to 10 pounds lighter Monday than what he played at most of last season. He has been working overtime with backs coach Bobby Jackson on techniques to avoid fumbling in anticipation of his significantly increased carries.
Bleacher Report: "Miami Dolphins Training Camp: Positions to Watch"
http://www.bleacherreport.com/nfl/nfl/miami-dolphins-training-camp:-positions-to-watch-200707301795/

Note that this list of critical units includes only one defensive position. That should give Dolphins fans a big hint as to which side of the ball needs the most work  as if they needed any clue.

Thanks finsforce. I have a lot of reading to catch up on.

Ronnie getting lots of work in practice will condition him for the upcoming workload this season. Hopefully, all the questions about his ability will be put to rest this year.

I think Shelton is right that by the end of camp, the five best linemen will be the starters.

You're welcome, Geforce. Us FHers always look out for each other :)

I don't think people necessarily question his ability more than they question his durability. Seeing how he played against Chicago last season shows you what he is capable of doing when the O-line gives him room to run. He just needs to do what Bobby Jackson is training him to do, which is to condition his body for the work he'll get this season.

I like Shelton's determination to be among the five. I quote Phunwin (http://phunwin.dolphins-insider.com/2007/07/02/pete-kendall-to-miami/) with the following:

Don’t look now, but this offensive line might be pretty good if they can get someone to solidify LG, whether that’s Kendall, or whether Liwenski or Mormino has a great training camp. Vernon Carey had a tremendous, if underappreciated, year at RT last year, and as the team’s best offensive lineman, moving him to LT is a perfectly reasonable move. I think he’s got the footwork to handle the job. I’m still not big on LJ Shelton, but I’m probably being too hard on him for his disastrous LT performance last year. Fact is, when moved to RG, he wasn’t bad at all, so he should be at least adequate at RG. And with Satele and Rex Hadnot at C and RG in some order (and Carey, of course), the Dolphins are finally making the push towards a homegrown offensive line that many of us have been crying for.

After debating with some of the posters here yesterday, I might have to disagree. When you read people calling him a bust or that he hasn't carried the team or for the #2 overall pick he should be making his own holes, I think people are questioning his ability.

Shelton believes in himself and that is just as important as talent for any athlete.

Good reading btw. Thanks again.

In that case, then I think the issue is his overall performance based on his draft position. Critics might insinuate that Brown has not been the type of player worthy of the second overall pick. There are several reasons for that conclusion, but I think the addition of a veteran fullback in Schlesinger will help Brown excel this season. I still think he has the ability to be a solid running back, but he has to be able to carry the burden this year.

I posted this the other day:

Brown played 12.5 games last year at 241 carries for 1008 yds.

Therefore it works out that he averaged 19.28 carries per game with 4.2 ypc (rounded down). If we take those numbers and extend them it works out as such:

16 games = 308 carries for 1295 yds @ 4.2 ypc. Is there really a question about his ability? His carries increased last year and his output rose. If we can get him 315 - 340 carries for the season he will have a fine season and all critics will be silenced.

If he keeps his career average of 4.2 and gets 340 carries he has 1428 yards for the season, now that is production.

But the key is how quickly the interior of the o-line come together. Ronnie is an inside runner, he can take it outside but he his much better suited to run inside the tackles. Satele, Hadnot and whomever is LG must be effective in tight spaces. I think this is why Lewienski will be our LG, one scouting report I read said the guy is better in close quarters, rather than out in space whilst pulling. That being said, these guys have to learn how to be a team, passing guys off and getting to the next level. Satele is a battler, when he's in a game he'll play hard and his attitude will come through. He can pushed back but the next play he seems to try harder and stones the guy. We need this guy to develop fast. Maybe having veterans either side of him will speed this process up a bit.

I'm not buying the ROTH WAS MISQUOTED stance he is taking.

Roth needs to just shut up. He hasn't done anything yet to be ripping any coaches. Even Saban!
