Miami Dolphins defense wants to turn up pressure
When Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter was devouring quarterbacks whole, the other defenders insisted they needed to find a way to bring some non-Porter pass-rush heat. After all, what happens if offenses start blocking Porter?
What happens is the past two games, when teams focused on Porter, a trend that would be dangerous to continue Sunday against Buffalo.
While Porter has received the honor of extra-special attention given to ace pass rushers, New England and St. Louis quarterbacks dropped back 79 times and were dropped just twice.
Porter, who has lost the NFL sacks lead, got one and safety Yeremiah Bell got the other on a blitz, both coming against New England. Porter now has 14.5 sacks.
Oh, there were a slew of quarterback hits and a couple of hurries. But as Porter said a few weeks ago, teams don't sign the big checks for hurries.
This week, no matter which quarterback plays, Trent Edwards (who is doubtful because of a groin injury) or J.P. Losman, the Dolphins have to find a way to penetrate the pocket.

He isn’t a flashy player, doesn’t date celebrities (at least not that we know of) and isn’t going to get you the most fantasy football points every week. But what Chad Pennington does is help the Miami Dolphins win games by minimizing his mistakes and maximizing his teammates’ potential.
Last season, the Dolphins were the laughingstock of the NFL with a 1-15 record. The only talk surrounding the team was whether it was going to break the record for futility and go winless in a 16-game schedule.
