Dolphins intended to rebuild offensive line before scandal

I know right. Jake Long was drafted first overall after Joe Thomas was already in the league. Mike Pouncey was the highest center ever drafted. Samson Satele (just before Ireland?) was a 2nd rounder taken before the higher rated Matt Kalil. John Jerry was a 3rd round pick maybe? High priced free agents rotated through like Smiley, that injured C, Incognito, Clabo, McKinnie. Soooooo much invested in a dysfunctional and non-producing OL. Ireland was good at drafting DL, but OL seemed to mystify him. Sparano ruined Jake Long, and we're just now hearing about Pouncey ... so did Ireland get any OL right?

What happened to Long still sickens me, guy should have been a 12 year starter who then goes in the honour ring, but no Sparano ruins a hall of fame level talent.

Sickening utterly sickening

Kinda hard to take that seriously...

Yup, me too. Sparano played Long against Julius freakin' Peppers when he could only raise 1 arm ... ROFL ... it's not like it was a tender calf or something, he couldn't even raise his outside arm! And Sparano plays him at LT against Julius Peppers and ruins his career!!!!! Un-freakin'-believable.

About this OL, contracts meant that Incognito and Jerry were highly unlikely to return. The original plan was to build the OL around Pouncey and that LT from Stanford who graded out atrociously bad. It became clear that in addition to both OG's our LT wasn't good enough and needed to be replaced. Our RT was a one-year contract to get us to a new draftee, so wasn't likely to return. That left only Pouncey around which to build. Now even that is called into question.

Playing him in preseason game #4 vs Dallas and him getting hurt was all on Tony. I thought it was dumb before the game and still do today.

It still amazes me how much over the years we have emphasized building our OL with two HC's that were OL coaches and yet we got as bad as we have.

This o-line coach wanted Incognito cut and somebody different at LT so you can't really blame him for the issues. Our head coach was a better personnel guy than the supposed personnel expert Jefflon Ireland.
