Dolphins interested in Byrd

Adam Beasley ‏@AdamHBeasley 53s

Pump the brakes on the Jairus Byrd-to-Miami talk, people. I'm hearing that's a smokescreen.

Smokescreen from us or Byrd's camp?? Why would we throw that out there as a smokescreen other than trying to lower the number in the Delmas negotiations

Of course it is. Because that would be too good to be true. Byrd can go **** himself then.

Just answered your own question. Maybe instead of Miami being used they are using people for a change.

i sure hope we aren't bidding against ourselves with this delmas contract...walk away miami...delmas will be nicked up before the ink even dries...

Byrd is the only FA Hickey can sign in FA that would somewhat excite Dolphans. Grimes was nice but expected, and Albert is OK as well but, Byrd is a difference maker. Not sure that will make any difference but, Ross does need something, and there is no one else in FA or the draft who will give that to him.

How would Byrd fit with Jones?

To make the Bills pay more than they have to...

Byrd + Jones = Most Overpaid safety tendem
Delmas + Jones + Bomb Heaven

Just not good ideas...

better than delmas would i can tell ya that...byrd has good instincts that help him overcome some range issues...i think he can be exploited in coverage also...but i guess any safety can...i don't think he's a great tackling safety either...be one of those trade offs i guess...you get good ball skills and instincts but you pay money like the guy has no weaknesses

delmas on the other hand has more a strong safety game heavy hitter but he takes a lot of chances and is always dinged up...can wear a target in coverage and not show great range...if detroits willing to let him just go tells me they've given up on him ever being dependable given how poor a secondary they have had through the years...if he's your starter like i said earlier you better have a plan b cause odds are damn good he's gonna miss time on you...and possibly extensive time

and that plan b better not be jimmy wilson when he's your starting nickle corner already and sees the field more than on 60 percent of snaps...

Smokescreen by Byrd's camp. Not happening. He'll be overpaid anyway.

I am not a huge Delmas fan because of the injuries and he needs to be able to practice. However, in Coyles offense I think Wilson could do a similar job to what Clemons did. I think Coyle would use Delmas different than he did Clemons. Clemons while solid has ZERO instincts, and Delmas has instinct and can make plays (when on the field) so he would probably be allowed to do a little more free lancing than Clemons did. It would also lead to a big play now and then, but it should produce more turn overs as well. If Wilson, or Thomas is in there he can always go back to the more conservative way he used Clemons.

If they bring Delmas in I would expect them to draft a FS in the mid to late rounds as well.

Andrew Abramson ‏@AbramsonPBP 21s

Dolphins, Browns and Rams have reached out to Byrd's reps, per AP. Still seems like long shot for Miami, but Dolphins have reached out.

Miami can compete with those teams if they want to get it done. Abramson is not very connected anyway.

delmas free lancing is what would concern me...he'll be out of position...i know people like coyle here but having 2 pretty much strong safeties as your last line of defense does not make a lot of sense to me...especially if we are gonna do like 2013 and get away from all that 2 deep we played in 2012 cause we are heavy blitz scheme
